Totally Hypothetical

Recommended Posts

Three or four teams would have an internal problem. Eventually someone would blab to the media.  And then. who knows?

Another angle: what if the player was a top-20 player, or even top-10? Not suggesting anything, let's say this is in some future year.

So let's start a list of players over the last 20 years:

Tony Allen - No.

Zach Randolph - No.

Your turn.

They broke up.  He's moved on to a Belgian model.  But honestly, most soccer fans wouldn't care if their star player was a criminal warlord in the offseason, as long as he scored goals for them.

Well, some are criminal warlords, so…

I think gay or trans uproar would be minimal until there was a conflict, such as Draymond punching Poole or an argument in the huddle, then ESPN and MSM would feature the conflict and it would be overly covered.

Gay...no one cares.  If someone wanted to identify as a woman then that would cause an uproar.

Bud-Light isn't selling at the store I go to.

But who cares if someone is gay. People can be happy, if they want to marry a tree.......I don't care. You do you.

If a star player or a role player on the Grizzlies or any other NBA team were to come out as gay, what would be the reception of 1) the posters on this message board. 2) social media and pop culture, and 3) the guys in the locker room?

I’ve been watching Ted Lasso, and wondered if the Colin Hughes scenario would play out similarly if the same thing happened in today’s NBA.

If he grabs 15 boards per game and plays great defense nobody cares, even if he's covered in tattoos and piercings and has pink hair.

Pre- or Post surgery make a difference? Seems to me just taking hormone treatments wouldn't be enough by itself. It would be interesting if someone tried to do that. It would be even more embarrassing than the swimmer who is destroying the natural women swimmers.

I think if she went through puberty as a male then she will have an unfair advantage no matter how many hormones' she takes. This has played out multiple times in swimming and track & field. They let post operation trans women participate and they usually dominate. There was one case a couple years ago the conservative culture warriors were all up in arms over, I think it was a women's track and field event where trans women finished first and second, maybe even third too. This is a rare occasion where I agree with them, if you go through puberty as a man you just develop different, different bone structure, muscle development, etc.... Liberals always point to science over faith but they seem to ignore the science on this issue. I lean liberal on most social issues but not this one.

I mean I don't think any reasonable person would disagree that this is a new issue and the NCAA needs to figure out a real plan to deal with it.  But I do think it's funny that all these good ole boys want people to believe they're really that passionate about Women's Division III Collegiate swimming, or whatever.  Lol

I don't believe anyone is talking about D-III women's swimming in particular. I believe the conversation started talking about how an NBA team would react to an openly gay male on the team. I asked if a trans person would be allowed to play in the WNBA. It kind of deteriorated from there down to you making a crack about D-III women's swimming.

"Good ole boys"?  I think it's funny that you think that's what it's about.

Well, if you'll notice, I was not responding to you in regards to your NBA hypothetical.  I was responding specifically to KyleB who referred to the "conservative culture wars" going on around this issue currently, which have revolved primarily around certain women's college sports.  Not a devolution in the conversation necessarily, just a different branch.

I'm not saying there aren't legitimate concerns to be hashed out here. The dissenting opinions of biological female athletes in particular deserve to be heard, and they often times aren't, and that's wrong.  But many of the loudest opponents just come from a certain demographic that I just find really difficult to believe are suddenly super passionate about women's issues or, for that matter, Trans issues.  I think generally those most seething with anger over this are just unwittingly making a largely emotional response to things talking heads on TV tell them they should be angry about.

Possibly.  Others are just regular folks watching their kids dreams being unfairly crushed by opponents they cannot possibly compete with.  BTW that TV thing works both ways.

I got what you were saying and agree with the sentiment. Its a real issue that needs to be figured out but I think some of the loudest on that side probably don't really care all that much about women's sports as much as they care about opposing any and all liberal social agendas. And I'm probably real close to getting a warning about political posts so I'm going to bow out of this discussion.

Haha... good call.  I'll do the same.
