It was blown out of proportion by a lot of people both in social media and traditional news, to the point that I'm sure the sheriff office got many calls from concerned citizens asking for a welfare check.

Which of course they did because it costs them nothing and imagine the fallout if they didn't and something bad happened.

I am a little surprised that the league hasn’t announced his suspension yet. my first instinct would be that the league would want to put this to bed as quickly as possible. there’s no need for further investigation. 
any ideas as to the reason for delay??

They probably don't want to dominate the news cycle with more Ja bad news versus the actual POs.    They can safely wait till after draft and keep NBA in the media zeitgeist.

Yep. I was too, put it down like 5 years ago and don’t think I’ve ever made a better decision. Life gets way more dramatic when you’re living life for a camera.

They are probably Waiting for the conference finals to end and will announce it at the news dump hour Friday evening at like 5. That way it’s old news by Monday and won’t get as many headlines as it would if they do it now. Parties involved (League office, Grizzlies and Ja) probably already know what the punishment is. Wouldn’t be surprised if the social media break is part of the process.

I think there is a lot to this, plus there is no rush, and the league can wait and see if he does something similar these few weeks.  As far as we know, the Grizz FO may already know a range of games he'll be suspended so they can plan a little bit without anything being announced.  I don't believe they know, but maybe the league has given them a head's up.

The league and NBAPA may want to be cautious in opening up the can of worms of punishing a player for an image on social media.  Flashing a gun, smoking weed, drinking alcohol, speeding, associating with a criminal....it's a dangerous arena of policing player's public images that I'm not sure the league wants to get into when for the most part, no crimes are being committed (unlike before when the police were actually involved in Ja's actions).
