I wanted to Start a more positive thread (shoutout @10SC-2-TOKYO ) to show some luv to a player i have given a hard time to over the season.   X has been great during Adams absence so i thought he needed his own thread.    His steady play has been invaluable during this rough patch.    Here is great stat to show how well he has been doing on defensive end.

A hug? Yes

Love? Idk

We are still getting killed on the boards lately and O boards are as rare as pink diamonds.

But a hug is in order for now....

I wouldnt mind keeping X long term.  If he is interested in a reduced role and doesnt pursue a full time backup spot. There is a quality useful third stringer that can be plugged in.

With BC out next season and uncertainty around how injury will affect his play going forward.   Signing X to a cheap extension after next season could make some sense.

He is definitely earning his keep !

Knows his role and his limitations… his number got called and he stepped in … lately he’s been stepping up as well.

Low maintenance too !

I cant wait to see how well he continues to play when Steve gets back !

good lookin out @GrizzTigerFan - Tillman getting his flowers!

In turmoil comes opportunity.  Aldama, Tillman, and now Roddy have made the most of it.  They have earned the opportunity to get some quality minutes in the playoffs.  It's all good.

Aldama was already in the rotation and doing well, but yes, Roddy and Tillman getting good opportunities.

I think he means Aldama seized the opportunity when he started in Jaren's absence. Much like Tillman in Adams' or Roddy in BC's.

Another important point from this that explains Denver's current slide is the terrible defense Jokic is playing. His poor pick and roll defense has been costing them, and their offense has not been able to make up for it.

Which is exactly what has killed them in the playoffs in the past and what I bet will keep killing them.

Just curious but should we be giving Coach Jenkins some credit for the way this young team has kept stepping up despite constant roster changes? How many coaches can take a third string, undersized center and have him come in and perform like this?

I just find it curious that the same person who started a thread about how well Tillman has performed since first Adams and now Clarke went down, is the same person who during this stretch has called into question the coach's performance.

Nothing to be Curious about.  Just go start one if you feel like he needs credit.

I find it more curious that the guy that constantly argues that Coaches have little impact on team success and its all about the players.   Is wanting to attribute the success of a player (who voluntarily decided to go to GLeague on his own in order to continue his own development) to a Coach.   Very curious indeed.

Coach Jenkins deserves a lot of credit in my view.  I like the way he protects his players.  He does his best to control the drama & tries to keep things in the locker room that need to stay in the locker room.

Hope Tillman sits when Adams is back. If he plays, that means we are most likely playing a 10 man rotation.

Definitely agree that Xavier deserves some love and respect for the role he has been playing.

Sorry for ever doubting you X!

TJ is a great players coach and developmental coach. He is just not a good X’s and O’s Coach. Ideally you get an assistant that is a good play runner, but I think it would not be easy to get a “better” coach for this particular unit.

To be clear, I just asked if it was warranted. I didn’t say he does. I do believe Jenkins should be the coach and not have people complaining about him when the team is in 2nd place in the conference despite all the players missed games.

But as one wise poster stated. It’s good to know we have such a wide selection of experts here on the boards if the Grizzlies need to find someone to coach.

this young man has been such a professional throughout his tenure and has always been ready when the organization calls his number. he’s the epitome of the professionalism that I hope that our entire team aspires for…

slim.

At the beginning of the season, I felt confident Tillman would not be re-signed after the initial rookie contract. Now, I think it is more likely than not.

His glaring weaknesses were being undersized (height) for a center, and lack of an outside game. He’s still not a threat from the outside, but does make some shots on occasion. However, he has proven his worth as a center by hanging with Embiid, Jokic, and AD.

He may not be the long term solution at C after Adams, but he could a great option as backup center with heavy rotation minutes. I know that it has been discussed that Jaren would move to Center, but I actually like him at the PF position better.

For playoff rotations you got the big bruising center in Adams and the small ball center in Tillman.  Its a perfect combo.
