Play in possibilities

Recommended Posts

Who ends up playing the 1st seed, in the first round of the playoffs.

10th seed plays 9th seed.   The winner plays the loser of 7th vs 8th.   The winner of that match is in the playoffs and must play the 1st seed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who ends up playing the 2nd seed, in the first round of the playoffs.

7th seed plays 8th seed.     The winner of that match is in the playoff and must play the 2nd seed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So right now the Pelicans are #10 and Lakers #9

Mavericks #8 and Timberwolves #7

Pelicans vs Lakers play  tonight.

My personal hope is that if the Lakers make it through the play-in, that they will face the Nuggets in the first round of the play-offs

Of course being a non-Lakers fan - it would be great to me if the Lakers miss the play-in altogether.

The way it is sitting now, I was ready to write that the Clips and Warriors had settled down to likely hold that 5 & 6 spot.

Then I looked at what each have remaining, and the Warriors have 8 of their remaining 13 on the road, including a bunch against playoff teams.  I feel a bit better about the Clippers remaining schedule, but they have to be one of the streakiest teams remaining and who knows how many games they'll sit their stars.

Assuming the Grizzlies can hang on to the #2 or #3 seed, I'd most want the Warriors in the 5 seed to face off with the Suns.

Ultimately, if Ja and Adams don't return, it doesn't matter who the first round opponent is. The Grizzlies will be going home

The way the Mavericks are going, without Luke they may drop out of the play-in altogether.

Between the Lakers and the Pelicans, both at 33-35, one of them is going to drop out of the play-in seeds tonight with 36 losses.

7  Timberwolves 35-34

8   Mavericks  34-35

9   Lakers 33-35

10  Pelicans 33-35

11 Thunder 33-35

12 Jazz   33-36

Timberwolves would be interesting - would Taylor take the same approach with Adams/Tillman as he did last year? Or would he be forced to if Adams is still recovering from injury?

If Adams is healthy he needs to play. The mismatch they created with KAT as stretch center no longer exists.

A person can also go to NBA.com and click on the "standings" tab.

They maintain a nice play-in/playoffs  chart/diagram - by team, and list of the eastern and western standings

I think it is worth it to add #6 seed and #11.

The race is so close and Mavs could easily go down

Lakers and Utah tied in games back, and they have two games remaining. Utah currently has a 2-0 lead H2H with them.

They are also tied with T-Wolves at 13 games back.

THUNDER sit in 8th.

Lakers sneaked by Orlando, 111-105, to move back into 10th.

That's because the Lakers have played 72 games, and Utah has played 70 so far. Both teams have the same winning percentage. Both Lakers and Jazz have two games remaining against each other, and if the Jazz just win one of the two, then they'll have the tiebreaker. I will say Utah's schedule is brutal, so I don't see them getting in. They have two games with Sacramento, and a game against Phoenix, Boston, Milwaukee, and Denver left.

I really want to play the Warriors.  Im 95% sure that they arent sure they can beat us full strength.  Atleast Klay doesnt.  One thing about trash talking psychology is when someone who was on top feels like they maybe a step behind now is that they keep bringing up "legacy" and rings.  Someone who thinks they can actively whip ur azz doesnt care about yesterday.

I want to avoid the Lakers.  Our biggest advantage imo is our big man versatility, and I feel like AD-Lebron-Vanderbilt kinda cancels that out.  Then Russell-Reeves is turning into a deadly backcourt combo with good size.

It would seem so.   Except the Lakers may lose more games.    A very fluid situation.

ditto.   Lakers  - if they get in the play-in at 10 or 9, they will have to play the loser of the 7-8 matchup.     And then if they win -- they would have to play the Nuggets.

Right now, the possibilities can change game to game.

I appreciate everyone in the thread's participation, opinions, and information shared.

With the Mavericks loss to the Grizzlies, and the Warriors win against Houston....

Warriors moved to 6th (play-offs)

Mavericks into 7th (play-in)

I would rather face GS than a fully healthy Mavs team
