Memphis Grizzlies and NBA Roster Moves

"No brainer" trade that won't happen:

LeBron James/cash considerations/Rajon Rondo's trade exception/future 2nd round pick to Memphis for Kyle/Culver/Melton/Aldama/Tillman/ZW8/their (protected) pick back/lower of Grizz first and Jazz first/plus the worse of the Warriors/Grizzlies pick the year the Warriors pick conveys to us.

ESPN Trade Machine says this trade will HURT the Lakers by 16 games and help us by 7 games.  That pick probably gets conveyed to the Pelicans, but oh well.  The Lakers need to move on from pretty much EVERYONE.  OUR Memphis Grizzlies need to activate WIN NOW MODE.

Rondo was traded to Cavs 2 1/2 weeks ago

ESPN's Trade-O-Meter has Rondo's trade exception on the Lakers' books for around $2 million.  The Lakers don't have whole lot of assets to work with.  No draft picks, and no first rounders for the next few years.

If I knew that AD would be healthy soon, I would go ALL IN on Anthony Davis.  Put AD with our Ja/Jaren/Bane/Dillon/Tyus core.

Pretend that it's a couple of weeks from now.  Brooks is back healthy and so are all the protocol guys.

Why would we need to trade anybody?  Can't we just act like getting all those guys back is like a massive trade where we didn't have to give up anybody or any draft picks?  Sort of the opposite of getting fleeced for some aging veteran.

I think he means Rondo's TPE.

Which cannot be aggregated to anything in a trade.

But what do I know.

I have a difficult time seeing Melton being helpful in PlayOf, and we know Jenkins isn't gonna use Culver just simply as a wing defender.   Jenkins has very little faith in Melton - the Bucks game is most recent example of that.   At this point it just makes more sense to keep Tyus and Kyle over Melton.

Only deadline move i can see making sense for playoff run is Melton + Culver + pick for a bench combo forward or helpful veteran bench wing.

That's a good idea.  Moving Melton also makes it easier to resign Tyus.  I really can't see us pairing down our core any more than Ja/Bane/Dillon/Tyus/Jaren/Clarke and I REALLY think Adams is an ideal intermediate-term/long-term piece.

The price on Mo Bamba is probably going up.  I like the Nets' Nic Claxton but he is ALSO going to be a free agent this summer.  So you don't want to do an overpay.  Bamba would help though.  Claxton might be an even BETTER fit.

Boucher/Yuta could help and we might not even have to move Melton.  Culver/Jazz pick might get that done -- and then you can package Melton in a move-up on draft night.

OKC is bad, but I like some of their pieces.  A Lu Dort rental, Derrick Favors (another year after this for $8 million), then Kenrich Williams or someone....  if they want OUR picks then maybe we trade down a bit (they have 30 and 34 or something in that range).

Kenrich Williams is only interesting dude you mentioned.  His playstyle seems like an easy fit with us.   He is basically the same size as Dillon.

We don't need another Center so not sure why Bamba gets mentioned so much.   Jaren Adams and Tillman are enough.

If we keep adams long term then it doesn’t matter you are right we won’t need another center.

If Mo Bamba can provide rim protection and 3pt shooting we get a big that can potentially keep Jaren at the 4 while providing a similarly rare skill set

I got just the guy you looking for. I've said it a couple of times already in this thread. And there are plenty of ways the deal can be made.

He is more consistent, experienced, and he could definitely help us in the home stretch and playoffs.

Hopefully the Knicks continue to lose every game between now and the deadline, and they might decide to blow it up. They will need to shed salary and accumulate picks if they are going to improve their roster.

I don't understand why people here are so quick to want to move Adams. He is doing exactly what the FO wanted and needed for Ja, Des and Jaren to operate. He shifts dudes out of the way, sets up iron curtain screens, gives up the ball, an underrated good passer.

I know the argument about him being a bridge, and that may be true. And if so, just let him play out his contract and then the money drops off the books in time for a few guys here to get upgraded.

100 percent right , the Grizzlies are WINNING Adams is playing his role and that role is Defence and rebounds

I’m with you. Let the team continue to grow organically. The league is wide open this year but there is no need to make Win Now moves. Let’s see what this team can do at full strength and then re-evaluate after the season.

Yeah realistically Zach is going to keep building the team as he sees fit which is going to be through the draft. Whatever he decides he has earned my trust

Yep, it’s definitely been earned. They have consistently found gems through trades and the draft. I wonder if some teams will be more hesitant to trade with them due to this.

Doubtful the trades have always been fair we normally have done trades that provided cap relief for teams while picking up assets.

Thing is that 13 looks really good as a 5

I guess it’s the thought that he could get one more decent sized contract after this one and would you rather pay him or try and get ahead of that. To me Tillman is the big to replace but only cause he’s undersized when it comes to facing the other big centers in the league if he could hold his own against them I think we’d  be fine with our bigs going forward.

So the idea would be to either find a tall athletic rim running shot blocking big, a strong bodied big that can hold his own against other big centers or a taller longer version of Tillman.

Denver cleared a roster spot to sign Boogie Cousins and got Bryn Forbes, all for a 2028 2nd round draft pick. They only had to give up the injured, expiring contracts of Bol Bol and Rodney McGruder.

I don't like this "All In" label used by those who don't want to make any moves. If we can add a vet with playoff experience for the low cost of a future 2nd rounder like the Nuggets did, I sure hope we do so.

Also enforcer, protector and fight stopper.  And a laugh when you most need it.

He really does but I like the idea of having two 7 footers with that versatility
