Grizzlies and Jaren Jackson agree on 4 year 105 million extension

Recommended Posts

Grizzlies go all-in on Jaren.  Very risky given his injury troubles, but Jaren's ceiling is still as good or better than any of the bigs in his draft.  Hope he proves the Grizzlies right.  Salaries are crazy.  It took Lebron 13 years in league before he got salary above that.

Congrats Jaren!

Yeah not even close to the max...fair deal based on what he has shown when healthy and future potential. Let's hope he stays healthy; he'll produce if that's the case.

We just overpaid… hopefully we trade him by next year

I think this is in line with what I expected. It's fair based on market value. OKC and DEN overpaid.

Sooo we get Jaren for 8 mil a year less than MPJ got and it’s an over pay? I say it’s right in line with what he should get for what he’s already produced. Gross under pay for what he could turn into.

Yeah, MPJ is the really scary one. MPJ only guaranteed for $12M in year 5 versus $39.3M full salary. Nuggets spending a lot of money the last 18 months or so.

What is the max now 200 million?

Max for Jaren would be 172 mil

I think for Jaren it would be in line with what Young got but the overall max would be what Luka got since he made an All NBA Team

Yes, Luka was the only player eligible for a rookie extension meeting the criteria for the 5-year, 30% of the cap salary.

Less than 80% of the max and people think we're overpaying? What do you think he would have been offered in free agency?

This is clearly a good deal. Basically what John Collins got minus the 5th year

This is an excellent signing, we aren't contenders unless Jaren is a force, and if he craps out we aren't going to be able to sign a significant difference maker anyways... If we waited til next year his price goes up significantly... We will have cap to possibly keep Kyle DB and Adams when the time comes if better options aren't available

There was no way Jaren was getting much less than this in free agency.

Uh, sure there was. Get injured again and play only 11 games, and he would have gotten much less.

One question, does this contract start immediately? Or 4 years plus this year?

After this year.

This season (2021-22) is the last year of his rookie deal. the extension kicks in next season (2022-23)
