Let's get this straight

Recommended Posts

There was a thread where right wing nut-jobs claimed the pandemic was a conspiracy for the CDC to make money on...that they are a for-profit big business.

Reality:

Established by Congress as an independent, nonprofit organization, the CDC Foundation is the sole entity authorized by Congress to mobilize philanthropic partners and private-sector resources to support CDC's critical health protection mission.

If Alex Jones is still posting here, don't lose that tin-foil cap.

So?  I like the conspiracy deep dives as much as anyone but at least put up a disclaimer or a spoiler alert in the title.

I would be up for a thread that just makes fun of Alex Jones (even most of the red-pilled crowd would).  You could also make a separate thread for Corona/Common Cold/Flu/Pneumonia/Police State Seasonal Allergies.

But I would rather stick to basketball. Preferably the NBA. MOST preferably the Memphis Grizzlies (then the NBA Draft).

The BUSINESS of the NBA is interesting too.  The CoronaVirus (or at least the CoronaVirus Narrative) could be the Angel of Death for the NBA.

Other sports are hit hard too but the NFL has more TV money.  Baseball is more of a spring/summer sport.  Shockingly, the WWE has the best pro sports (entertainment) business model at the moment.

So let’s talk about that.

In my opinion if the NBA ends the season then jumps to the draft in August then I think the league HAS to have a summer/early fall league in Las Vegas to recoup some of the lost TV money.  It could go mid August to late September or something.  Give the winning teams a cash prize and a (mid/late) lottery pick.  What about an extra pick at 5? Or 15?

I wonder if Silver is thinking that it might be a good time for expansion. The owners sharing the expansion fee's would put smiles on their faces. If things get worse down the road, then contraction isn't as bad later on.

At this point, I would just call the season, take the hit and prepare for next season.

I'm thinking contraction is the more realistic option if they do something.

I'm reminded of the MLB collusion case of the late 80's. The owners were all fined, so they decided to expand the league. They then used the expansion fee's to pay their fines, resulting in no money coming out of their pockets.

Right now the NBA owners are facing the fact of losing a great deal of money. Vegas and Seattle want teams. Buy in for each team will be at least a billion dollars, which the owners would all split. Like those baseball owners, when it comes to being purists and losing money or expanding and making money, they will take making money every day of the week. They don't make money by contracting, they just lose less. Contraction could happen, and may be more likely to if the cities seeking teams can't scratch together the money. Interesting times.

EDIT: this is quality thread hijacking 😉

I think MLB should be the first one to start playing too.    There isn't a lot of contact in baseball.    if you want to take extra precautions just make them wear some type of breathable facemask (N95 aint it) and everyone wear gloves.

Trump's MO is to sow discord and keep everyone guessing about his next move. This has to be the worst time in history to have this kind of leader. The President's daily briefings are a narcissistic rambling. I'm not a fan of the Arkansas govenor but he runs an on-point informative daily briefing.

Quote
What are the character traits of a narcissist?
People with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) are characterized by the personality traits of persistent grandiosity, an excessive need for admiration, and a personal disdain and lack of empathy for other people.

Add the greed and whataya got:

A world of hurt.

I'm working full time and I want the US and the world to join me but how is now different from 90 days ago when the numbers were all heading up. We are still in the middle of a shortage of testing. Thanks to our leader, which is why he doesn't want an honest briefing. He would have to admit a mistake so that we could move on.

But The Donald learned a long time ago from Roy Cohn, never admit a mistake, attack those who point it out.

Today, 04/22/20, the Trump virus briefing was the usual circus act, a circus of self-interest. One of the first orders of business was, big surprize, to rewrite history.

CDC Director Redfield was interviewed yesterday by the Washington Post.

Trump says Redfield was "totally misquoted." He said Redfield called the article "ridiculous."

A few minutes later, a reporter read aloud the Redfield quote from the WaPo article:

"There is a possibility that the assualt of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through."

Redfield said that it was an accurate quote.

Trump was shown to be a liar so he move on to attack the WaPo headline, which reads,

"CDC Director warns second wave of coronavirus is likely to be even more devastating."

Trump argued that Redfield was talking about coronavirus in combination with the Flu so the story was fake news.

The Flu happens every winter. Of course you would consider the effects of the Coronavirus and the Flu together. To argue about this is not logical.

The President of the United States lied about a news quote and a few minutes later was shown to be a liar. That would have shamed most people, even most politicians, but not Trump. He spent 6 minutes of the briefing attacking that news article because the CDC Director's opinion did not align with his interests.

Our leader's decision making is governed by self-interest.

Is trump stupid?

5 HABITS OF STUPID PEOPLE:

1. They blame others for their own mistakes

2. They always have to be right

3. They react to conflicts with anger and aggression

4. They ignore the needs and feelings of others

5. They think they are better than everyone else

Today he said that his Coronavirus doctors should test injecting people with cleaning disinfectants.

His first idea was to kill the virus by shining light on the body.

He really believes that he has knowledge thats better than the specialists, whether they're military or medical.

I don't know if he's stupid. I go back and forth between thinking he's stupid and he's a criminal geniu

This dude is dumber but more dangerous than Mengele.

This is stuff straight out of the Nazi camp doctors manual of medical experimentation.

How can people fall for this garbage?

Good analogy because some folks have been convinced that they are in a culture war.

This is the new White House. Everyone who works there knows not to try to correct him about anything. His flunky briefed him about the study on the effect of sunlight and uv light on surfaces so Trump suggested using light from inside the body. The flunky should have politely educated Trump but folks who do that don't last long so everyone is afraid to speak. You could see it in Dr. Birx's reaction.

So Trump, ever the showman, salesman and gambler (with the lives of others), doubled down with the lets-test-shooting-folks-up-with-disinfectant schpeel.

The day after the presser re:  UV and bleach, 2 news articles came out:

1. A company from Colorado, AYTU Bioscience, has developed a fiber optic UV light prototype device that could be placed via an intubated patient's tube and into the lungs. Then UV light could hit the virus and kill it and hopefully the patient recovers. The company is working with Cedars-Sinai hospital to do a trial on the effectiveness of this device.

2. A biophysicist in Switzerland, Andreas Kalcker, has indicated that Chlorine Dioxide (sounds similar to bleach, but it isn't) could be even more effective at stopping virus replication than hydroxychloroquine. He has been researching uses of Chlorine Dioxide for 13 years. The Chlorine Dioxide is diluted with water and taken orally. I am not aware if any trials have begun with that substance. But it is already FDA approved as a disinfectant for many applications including water purification, food purification, as an ingredient in some prescription drugs, and has been in use since the early 1900's.

So, after the MSM went beserk and Nancy Antoinette (let them eat ice cream and chocolates) talked about injecting Lysol into your lungs, guess who gets the last laugh!!! You think Trump didn't already know about UV fiber optics and Chlorine Dioxide? He has access to the best intelligence info in the world.

BEST troll ever by the president. President Trump ... always 3 steps ahead.

Maybe both of these will _eventually_ _prove_ effective.

Right now they are completely unproven and potentially very harmful. This was a Coronavirus briefing to the nation. One person died trying to drink what he thought was hydroxychloroquine as touted by Trump. Shouldn't that couple's error have caused Trump to be more cautious when discussing treatments. Surely you can see that.

About the Heal light: Lets wait until they've tested it inside the body. It sounds like a steep hill to me. The Coronavirus is in the cells of the lungs. How will a UV light on the end of a catheter kill only the virus. It appears that this treatment, if it works, is only for the most seriously ill patients.

Chlorine dioxide is fraudulently marketed as a magic cure for a range of diseases from brain cancer to AIDS. Enemas of chlorine dioxide are a supposed cure for childhood autism, resulting in complaints to the FDA reporting life-threatening reactions,[42] and even death.[43] Chlorine dioxide is relabelled to a variety of brand names including, but not limited to MMS, Miracle Mineral Solution and CD protocol.[44] There is no scientific basis for chlorine dioxide's medical properties and FDA has warned against its usage.[45][46]

Chlorine dioxide is used as a bleaching agent and for water treatment. The FDA has been warning against drinking chlorine dioxide since 2010 after the agency received several reports of consumers drinking products containing the chemical. The agency warns that drinking the product can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and symptoms of severe dehydration.

Social media users began circulating the false claim on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube shortly after the first case of the virus made landfall in the U.S.

Trump mentioned light and disinfectant to draw folks attention away from his backing of hydroxychloroquine. Initial studies show it to be ineffective against Coronavirus and thus harmful because of its side effects.

Sorry man, there's a reason that the White House folks don't bring up these wingnut arguments.

Trump tells at least three lies in every presser. If you read real news you'd know. His lies about testing get repeated every day. These are published numbers. How can you trust a leader who lies about facts and denies previous statements that were recorded for all the world to see. That leads to another important topic. Its bad enough that the US got a late start in this fight. Worldwide our president should be a leader not a laughing stock.

He was asked about his zero-cases-soon claim. He now says that claim was true because we will someday in the future reach zero cases. He says this stuff with a straight face.

I'm sure you've seen it, but here is a recent history rewrite, only this one is done the next day.
