San Antonio Spurs @ Memphis Grizzlies 1/10/20

Recommended Posts

Spurs are playing really good right now.  They just beat Milwaukee and Boston.  We need to bring our A game.  The effort we gave against the Wolves won't cut it.

That was our 4th game in 6 days. Also the first home game after a series of road games is always a tough one. We should be well rested tomorrow and should play a lot better.

you an never say never, but JV is not going anywhere this year...draft is thin, and no one contending is going to give Memphis an important piece if their in the running.  Not sure JV/big man role is easily replaced...a healthy JV is good for 26 minutes, 16 points and 14 boards per game...and your right, he has a very friendly contract and he is only 27....

I think from the stand point view of Grizzlies organization it's a win-win situation not matter how you spin it. JV signed a 3 year contract. 16-15-14. That's REALLY team friendly.

So, Grizzlies have two options: keep him and wait for the youngsters to develop (though JV is not old himself, just 27 and big guys game doesn't decline as fast with an age as with high flying uber athletic scorers). Ja and JJJ are just 20 years old, Brooks 23, Clarke 24. We can easily imagine 3-4 years from now Grizzlies to be one of the best in the West. Morant is special, other guys have potential too.

Second option - use JV as a trade bait. JV, basically, is in his prime. Everybody knows that the biggest issue with him is PNR defense. In all other aspects of the game JV is very solid. Teams like Dallas, Clippers, or some other team, if their starting C goes down with an injury could gladly use JV. And wouldn't hesitate to make a very sweet offer to Grizzlies. Grizzlies might be inclined to go "young" in their C position, cause nowadays Cs are not as impactful as they were before. Apart from Jokic, Embiid and couple others - all the rest starting Cs in the NBA are specialist, utility players.

JV has to be taken into account too. He was loyal to Raptors, they changed his style of play and his body not the way everybody was predicting for JV to develop. Now Toronto is in the past. After the draft JV said that next goal for him is to win rings. Raptors won rings, but JV didn't participate in the parade. I think that JV is still able to contribute A LOT for a good team. Question is, will he be patient to baby sit young Grizz if a team gets stuck on the treadmill?

I think that until trade deadline of 2021-2022 season Grizzlies will continuously get better. Much better. It would be very good for the team to make play-offs this year, but it's up to Jenkins. A rookie coach with a new, young team - Jenkins is pretty unimpressive so far. Making the play-offs this year would give young guys the taste of the real NBA basketball. Boost their confidence and morale, make them train hard during the off-season. Maybe even JV will decide to chisel his body cause better times are ahead.

That's my preferred scenario. Other one is - some top tier team suddenly decides that they need a serious C for their post-season push and would come after JV. JV always plays better in the post-season. Slower pace, smart executions fit him better.

We'll see. But any development would be good development.

If we do a “big trade” or a “big trade deadline blowout” then I am on the record with what I would do.

Other than that I am just trading Iggy and that’s about it — keep everyone else.  JV isn’t even OLD. As a secondary big man (Jaren is the future) he gives us lots of different as far as lineups go and he can produce.  Having Jonas also allows us to play Clarke as our third big — he’s an ideal 6th man (until he maybe shows us that he can play/start at the 3).

I’ve been once but my wife hasn’t and wants to try it. I had a blast when I did go and we will def get some ribs. Will have to try Central soon tho.
We will be headed out Saturday but in no rush at all, any recommendations for Saturday?
Also, where to go on Beale after the game?

I like Blues City Cafe for steaks.  I usually go with the Memphis strip.  The T Bone is good.  As is the ribeye.  The ribs are good. They also have a good sausage and cheese plate, and stuffed mushrooms.

A nice big FU to sportsnet for showing Pelicans/Knicks instead of our game like they were suppose to!

Jaren’s shooting is unreal

He's like a 6'11" Steph Curry

And he is firing up which is good to see

Just need him to now pound his chest for the complete package

Yeah, blacked out in League Pass but no TSN or Sportsnet coverage. Maybe it's on NBA TV Canada (which I don't have).
