He becomes immediately exempt from the draft process once ruled ineligible for college since the NBA requires one year of college. He can sign with any team he likes.

He would have to go through the draft process. Players are drafted into the NBA.

"How would affect Wiseman's draft stock?"

It won’t. Wiseman will still be eligible for the 2020 NBA Draft regardless of if the NCAA deems him ineligible for the current college basketball season. ESPN projects him to be the No. 1 pick in the draft. We had him at No. 9 in our mock draft in June.

Not sure where you're getting your information,.

Its a little known rule. You have to get a waiver from the league. The guys at work were talking about it.

That is incorrect. All drafted players must be at least 19 years old during the calendar year of the draft. To determine whether a player is eligible for a given year's draft, subtract 19 from the year of the draft. If the player was born during or before that year, he is eligible.

The NCAA ruling has no effect on his draft status.

NEW YORK,¬†Oct. 18, 2018¬†‚ÄstThe NBA G League today announced a Select Contract as part of a comprehensive professional path that will be available, beginning with the 2019-20 season, to elite prospects who are eligible to play in the NBA G League but not yet eligible for the NBA. The contracts, which will include robust programmatic opportunities for development, are for elite players who are at least 18 years old and will pay $125,000 for the five-month season.

‚ÄúSelect Contracts are an answer to the basketball community‚Äôs call for additional development options for elite players before they are eligible for the NBA,‚ÄĚ said NBA G League President Malcolm Turner. ‚ÄúThe supporting infrastructure surrounding these newly-created Select Contracts is designed to provide a rich offering of basketball and life skills developmental tools for top young players to grow along their professional paths from high school to the pros.‚ÄĚ

NBA G League Select Contracts are designed for year-round professional growth and will include opportunities for basketball development, life skills mentorship and academic scholarship. These offerings are slated to include basketball workouts during the summer months through existing NBA infrastructure like NBA Summer League and NBA Academies, year-round education programs designed to increase players’ ability to personally and professionally manage their careers, and a scholarship program for athletes who want to pursue higher education after their playing days. Additionally, the NBA G League will further enhance player experience through existing partner relationships and NBA player development programming.

During the year leading up to the 2019-20 season, the NBA G League will hire a dedicated program manager and establish a working group that will be tasked with identifying eligible elite players who may be offered Select Contracts. More broadly, this working group will also oversee the implementation of the professional path initiative.

Players will be eligible to sign a Select Contract if they turn 18 by Sept. 15 prior to the season in which they would play. While there is no maximum age for a player to be eligible for a Select Contract, the contracts are not available to players who have gone through an NBA Draft.

NBA G League teams hold local tryouts each offseason and can invite up to four players from these tryouts to their training camps.

But can they just skip the F League?

He could sign with the G League but I think he pretty much has to wait until June 2020 to be drafted no matter what.

He could sign with the Memphis Hustle but the Grizzlies wouldn't really have his rights.

so a player could enter the draft

get drafted

not sign contract with said team

become an undrafted player

go sign with any team he wants

?

They’d have to wait a year and forego a year of earnings, but I believe so, yes.

No. If a player is drafted he can not sign with a different team simply yet not signing with the team that drafted him. That team has his rights.

That’s not how that works at all. It’s one year removed from high school and a minimum age of 19. He’d still have to go through next years draft.

I was wondering about this too. From what i've been able to find it seems he actually can't sign to the Hustle during the season as he would be a designated local player (someone from the area/playing at a school in the area). And these local players must be tryouts in training camp, and can't sign later on unless they've already been drafted by the dleague.
