Team and Individual goals for the Memphis Grizzlies

Recommended Posts

Team goals

1. Most important goal for this season is to be in bottom 2 and to get our top 6 pick. It is unimaginable to have a season like we are having and miss on a pick. This number 1 goal is easily achievable.

2. Develop winning /any culture. Because of goal number 1, Rookie coach who is not respected enough for players to play some defense and goals of individual players this is unachievable.

3. Get more assets for the veterans. This is achievable depending on a market.

Individual player goals.

Ja Morant

1. Making sure that Memphis Grizzlies is Ja Morant's team and Ja is the ONLY face of the franchise. Showing your stuff and becoming  the only face of the franchise. Winning in the NBA is hard. You need to really try it hard and usually opponents  want it more in the end. Who cares about winning, just look at teams number 1 goal. Showboating, getting his numbers and making sure, Jaren is not getting enough to challenge for the title of franchise player. This goal is easily achievable.

2. Making sure to have the numbers for ROY.   Easy

3. Making sure Jaren is a JAG. Easy as pie.

4. Enjoy Grizz is yours.

Jaren Jackson Jr.

1. Making sure that his is co-face of the franchise. Unachievable as Ja will make sure you are a JAG.

2. If goal number 1 is unachievable, kiss the Ja's ring and tell him you are his Robin, or you are a JAG. Achievable with good brown nosing.

3. Stop fouling. Easily achievable as there are so many offensive fouls you can get. While defending make sure you do not try and contest anything. Letting opponent score is nothing, (everyone else does it) they will score, but you stay on a court to score as well and you on your way being number 2 to Ja.

Jae Crowder

1 If you have a good shot take it. If you have a bad shot take it. If you have no shot take it . Do not worry about defence. This is a contract year and it's time to look after yourself.

Dillon Brooks

1 This is a contract year, ask Jae what to do.

Jonas Valanciunas

1. You have 3 year contract, relax if you have the ball DO NOT PASS...you never getting it back. As no one will acknowledge that you are defencive savant...don't try too hard, you will ruin your reputation.  Relax and count the money. Shoot some 3s.

Kyle Anderson

1 Ask Jonas what to do.

Tyus Jones

1 Ask Kyle what to do.

Brandon Clarke

1 Kiss the ring do more brown nosing than Jaren and you are Robin and true number 2 on a team.

Marko Guduric

1 Enjoy yourself you are playing in the NBA.

Bruno Caboclo

1 Ask Brandon what to do.

De'Anthony Melton

1 Ask Dillon what to do.

Grayson Allen

1 Kiss the ring, get more photos with some dogs.

Solomon Hill

1 Enjoy your last season, show your hairstyle.

Josh Jackson

1 Talk to Grayson, get some cats and maybe coala in your instagram account.

Andre Iguodala

1.Tell everyone, you only play for the Lakers and wait for the buyout.

It's kind of hard to incorporate a winning culture while trying to be the worst team in the league.

3. Get more assets for the veterans. This is achievable depending on a market.

Crowder and Hill shouldn't make it to March on the team.

4. Enjoy Grizz is yours.

Jaren Jackson Jr.

1. Making sure that his is co-face of the franchise. Unachievable as Ja will make sure you are a JAG.

Re-read goal #1 under Ja. You can't form a winning culture if you have a disagreement on who is the face and who isn't. That creates issues such as what we saw in OKC with Durant and Westbrook. Ja is the PG and he controls the ball. JJJ is the PF and is second to Ja. That's the way it is.

4. Rebound the **** ball. Quit playing so soft inside. Get position and grab some boards.

Jae Crowder

1 If you have a good shot take it. If you have a bad shot take it. If you have no shot take it . Do not worry about defence. This is a contract year and it's time to look after yourself.

Screw that. Crowder is supposed to be the veteran leader on the team. Act like a leader and show restraint shooting the ball.

Dillon Brooks

1 This is a contract year, ask Jae what to do.

Dillon needs to learn to set up on the arc to take jump shots and stop trying to create off the dribble. Part of his responsibility is to open space in the paint for Ja to operate.

Jonas Valanciunas

1. You have 3 year contract, relax if you have the ball DO NOT PASS...you never getting it back. As no one will acknowledge that you are defencive savant...don't try too hard, you will ruin your reputation.  Relax and count the money. Shoot some 3s.

No. Jonas is the veteran the team has committed to. He needs to be the leader and show the youngsters how to play and that includes passing when you don't have a good shot.

Kyle Anderson

1 Ask Jonas what to do.

Continue to be a play-making forward, play hard on defense and take the occasional three to keep teams honest. You aren't a scorer so don't force up too many shots.

Tyus Jones

1 Ask Kyle what to do.

Continue to help Ja develop into an all-around PG. Ja doesn't have to be score first PG so having a veteran around to help him grow into being the team leader is more important.

Brandon Clarke

1 Kiss the ring do more brown nosing than Jaren and you are Robin and true number 2 on a team.

Know your limitations and keep taking advantage of the opportunities.

Marko Guduric

1 Enjoy yourself you are playing in the NBA.

Keep working on your jump shot and take advantage of this opportunity to let the game slow down for you. You don't have to play at such a fast pace.

Bruno Caboclo

1 Ask Brandon what to do.Keep working on your outside shot and your interior defense. You can help spread the court on offense but you will have to be stronger holding your position down low to get regular minutes in the rotation.

De'Anthony Melton

1 Ask Dillon what to do.

Don't overshoot or try to be too much. Let the game come to you.

Grayson Allen

1 Kiss the ring, get more photos with some dogs.

Solomon Hill

1 Enjoy your last season, show your hairstyle.

Josh Jackson

1 Talk to Grayson, get some cats and maybe coala in your instagram account.

Keep your nose clean and out of trouble and be patient. Your opportunity is coming as long as you don't screw up again.

Andre Iguodala

1.Tell everyone, you only play for the Lakers and wait for the buyout.

There are some games where creating off the dribble is all he's got.

That may be true but he needs to learn to set up on the arc to take jump shots and stop trying to create off the dribble. Part of his responsibility is to open space in the paint for Ja to operate.

His release isn't that quick to beat the defender's close out, so he ends up putting it on the floor.

Possibly but that is why he need to learn to set up on the arc to take jump shots.

I have seen his release speed up when he gets to feeling it. He needs to start shooting like that at all time. Just catching and gunning.

If he can get it dialed in, I'd like to see it too.

I like forward to your 2020 Big Board!  You have put me on notice!  Cool write up.  A bit snarky.

Are you also gonna do a mid-season report card?

Whats really cool is that i can see the framework of actual NBA championship team even with the younger players on our current roster.  The guys have potential to fill the roles needed for championship caliber teams.

Potential SuperStars:   Ja and Jaren

High Level Role Player(s): Brandon Clarke

Potential Dynamic Wing(s): Josh Jackson, Grayson Allen

Floor spacing wing:  Marko Gudric

6th man scorer:  Dillon Brooks

Big Body Interior Beast:  Jonas

Legit BackupPG:  Tyus

Versatile Role Player(s)  Kyle and Bruno

Perimeter Defender: DeAnthony Melton

Tough Guy: Jae Crowder

Yea i know most of these guys won't ultimately become the "types".   But its pretty cool that we actually have players that have "potential" to develop into those roles.   In years past we had guys that were already who they were or past prime or trying to change guys to fit those roles when it wasn't natural for them.    Also extra bonus is that slowly teams are going back to Two True Superstar led teams versus Big Three.   Even if we do land another high pick it isn't the end of the world if the guy doesn't become a Star.    Having Two Stars surrounded by High Level Role players can still result in championship.

Exciting times Grizz fam ... exciting times.

(as always forgive my english, I speak better than I write 😥)

I've seen all the games. For a new team like us I think it's impossible to make a judgement before at least 30/35 games.

But...

Ja is amazing. modern pg, must improve the shot then we'll talk about top class.

JJJ is on the line between being a good player or an all star. Depends on him.

BC make me crazy. Very solid player. What a fantastic steal!

J Val is always good, but we knew that. Great pro, nice guy.

Brooks could be the ideal 6th man

I'm happy to see "my guy" Marko improving a little bit after an awful start. He played in Europe under coach Obradovic the last seasons, a purely defensive BB... many times the games ended 76-72... then he played the WC and then he arrived in Memphis. He needs some time, it's not easy to switch to a totally different kind of game, but listen to me, the guy can ball.

I believe that if we adjust the D we will be less c**p than we think.

Go Grizz!

Ironically our team last night LOOKED like a classic Spurs team.  Clarke was an efficiency freak (but in an understated way), Jaren and Jonas asserted themselves in the game but in different ways.  Jaren went off.  Marko looked crafty and shifty.  Dillon hit tons of shots from everywhere (or at least that is what it felt like).  Ja struggled, got some fouls and turnovers and missed shots, but he hit a 3, got to the lane, threw one down, and ALSO used his electric speed to scramble the defense.  Who was our last perimeter player to command a double team?  ANYONE?

Clarke's upside is through the ceiling.  Maybe he can't get away with being a small ball 5 (although maybe for a couple minutes here and there), but on the flip side he showed some flashes of Kawhi Leonard potential.  If he can play the 3 (and I think he can) we have a BIG THREE that will win tons of games.

I think we have two more good 1st rounders to help augment the rebuild: a pick either this year or next year, plus the vaunted/mythical/apocalyptic "double draft".

I also think our next two "major picks" really need to fit in well with our core.

Our upcoming second rounders probably need to be spent on "specialists": wing shooters, rim-running centers, stretch 5's.  Another archetype we could go after in the second round (that more teams should but probably won't until it is too late): solidly athletic, long, high BBIQ forwards who can defend all 5 positions.  We should look at a ton of 6'8-6'9 types who project well on that side of the ball and are ALSO low usage/low maintenance on offense.  Yeah, a guy look this should PROBABLY go in the top 5 -- but you never know.  Counting stats get the flash -- and the Internet Mock Draft Community (IMD) hype.

Can't wait that long!

And, it isn't even the mid-point in the season for games!

What is the 41st game of the year?

Or... if it is a REALLY long report card write up it will give me something to read so I won't fall asleep watching the All Star Game.

... I actually just did another internal big board with guys who resemble archetypes that I like (especially going forward) but maybe I just went with guys who could really help US.

I still have James Wiseman at 1 (no brainer pick for us from a business perspective since he would sell tickets, jerseys, and hype up the local basketball fan base), Deni at 2 (could be worth more to us than other teams), with Josh Green moving up to 3 -- haven't really watched him but based on write-ups sounds like a PERFECT FIT for us at the 2 guard spot (especially since he hit FOUR 3 pointers in Arizona's last game).  Definitely a guy to keep an eye on.  Other potential Grizz picks: Achiuwa (5), and Aaron Henry (7 with The Stepien doing a solid write-up on him) followed by (in order) Tyrese Maxey, Mamadi Diakite, Anthony Edwards, Isiah Joe, RJ Hampton, LaMelo Ball, Tres Tinkle, Isaiah Stewart, and Jaden McDaniels to round out my top 16.  So, lots of trade down candidates.

If I had three basic draft tiers of 1.5, 2 and 3/4 then I would say this has a lot of Tier 2 guys and then your Tier 3/4 crop.  Although maybe you put Tier 2 and 3 together....  Then it looks like Tier 2/3 is the biggest tier in the draft.  With Tier 4 being made up of veteran specialists or big-time projects.

Wow.  I completely forgot about Scottie Lewis.  Just gotta put him back in in my NEXT big board.
