Is Ja Morant Worthy of a #2 pick?

I don't mean on this board, I mean in the media, everybody is talking Ja and RJ. Hunter should certainly be a part of the national dialogue for the #2 pick, he just isn't.

But THIS GUY is going to make other gms be ashamed by not picking him. He is just a great great prospect. Hell, he may be better than Zion.

I LOVE this kid.

Somebody pointed out on Real GM that once the Pelicans got the first pick the Zion hype DIED.  So true.  lol

ESPN and the rest are mad that the Lakers and Knicks didn't get top 2 picks.

Not as much draft talk out there, maybe it's because of the Finals.  They aren't talking about Ja much either.

The indie draft guys are talking about Hunter, but not the big guys.  I guess they are still talking about RJ Barrett.

To be honest, there is much hype about Tacko Fall as anyone else.

Although the main stream analysts and the keyboard scouts are both talking up Darius Garland more.

Strange draft season.  Hopefully it picks up!

This statement is real goofy and can be applied to EVERY prospect.  Why wouldn't someone who has shot well at every level, all of sudden be unable to shoot?

Long distance from the 3 and bigger and better athletes guarding him.

Suppose we have settled on Ja as the choice.

Then the phone rings.

What reasonable offer would you take for #2 ?

#3 and a non-allstar rotation player?

#4 and a protected future first?

3, Mitchell Robinson, cash, two future 2nd rounders, and a protected future first round pick.

Nothing. Morant is the better player. Keep the better player

The only scenario under which I would entertain taking the 3rd pick is if they're planning to take Barret at #2. If you can get assets for the #2 pick and still get your guy, that'd be a very savvy play. But if they're settled on Ja - they've decided he's the better player - then no, I wouldn't trade the pick. This is the future of the franchise, so if they feel Ja is better, they need to take him.

i would consider the trade with nyk. that'd be the only team i'd consider a trade with, unless pelicans were to get stupid and trade down.

slim.

I basically have Ja/Zion/Sekou tied for the first pick.  Followed by Hunter and Garland I guess.  Windler and Bazley are up there too.  With RJ somewhere in the top 10-15 (I am running hot and cold on him). Tacko/Bol/Bruno/Nic Claxton offer value at center pretty much anywhere outside the 3-5 range.  I still don't get Culver....  Reddish/Culver offer value closer to 15-20 than top 10.  Brandon Clarke might go outside the top 15 but should offer value.  Run on 2 guards: late first (KPJ, Wilkes, Herro, Louis King, NAW).  ... I still think we should try to buy a second rounder even though some of my favorites are moving up.  If our young "big 3" are Ja/Jaren and to a lesser extent Bruno Caboclo, this could be a good year to find a 4th horseman.  Aubrey Dawkins/Jeremiah Martin could offer value on the perimeter.  Kenny Wooten might be worth a flyer -- if so he could pretty much round out our big man rotation.  The 3 Vols might fall (Grant Williams/Admiral Schofield/Jordan Bone) and if they do they also offer value late.  Kyle Guy looks like a good summer league pickup.

That's not reasonable. Dallas ain't trading Doncic.

That’s the type of offer it would take for Morant. I pray the Grizzlies don’t overthink this.

Yeah something like Zion or Luka.  Ja might be worth more than Trae Young.  With Sexton behind both.  Jaren is probably the best non-Zion Big in these past two drafts (at least in terms of 2-way guys) with Ayton, Mitch Rob, Bagley, Bol Bol being a step down.  Sekou might end up being better than all but 2 or 3 of last year's rookies.

Zion probably has higher trade value than actual value.  Same with RJ (but with less of each).  Ja Morant has more actual value.  Sekou is about to be a top 5 lock for me (just based on limited tape/highlights, work out clips, narrative, and trendy archetype).

Someone has to ask. Is there ANY chance the Pels surprise everyone and take Ja?

ANY chance there's a trade for Zion out there (not just us)?

Maybe. I guess.  Zion's trade value is through the roof -- possibly higher than his ACTUAL value.

He might be like Greg Oden in that way.  He's valued like he's the next LeBron, but I doubt he is the next LeBron.  Even though I like Zion.  The league is all about length and shooting -- and he isn't long and can't shoot.

I was just gonna ask the exact same question.

I'm worried that the Pels might throw Jrue into the AD trade, particularly if it is a multi team, multi player deal.

Draft day can't come soon enough.....

This is what I worry about if Pels steal our thunder
