17-49? Dang, SixthMan, are you one of those guys that gets a kick out of telling kids there's no Santa? We're only a game and a half out of first place! Doesn't that sound better than a 17-49 projection based on our current record?

I'm not against looking at it that way. We are early in the season, so this format makes us look really good or really bad.

Waiting on an update, from the Sixth Man.

(The best at this type of stuff).

One thing of note. Even with the slow start, the Grizz are only in 9th place, and other teams are going down with injuries as well.

People need to add a picture or something so that this keeps getting bumped to the top.

SixthMan keeps this updated for our viewing pleasure, we should all be able to add something to this thread.

**** we can't catch a break. Even with the win last night all three Texas teams won as well. UGGGGGGGGGGG

After seeing that all the Texas teams won last night, I went and looked at SA's, Houston's and Dallas's next ten games.

San Antonio is in the east right now and after beating Philly, has the murderers row of the Nets, Pistons and Raptors as their next 3 before going west to the Clips, Utah and Portland. I looked at their games and the best I could hope for was for them to go 6-4 in their next 10 which would put them at 24-13.

Dallas and Houston's next ten were a hodge podge of home and away games. I went through and the best I could hope for for them both was 5-5 which would put them both at 20-16.

Then I looked at Memphis. The best I could hope for in our next ten games was 9-1, but then I remembered that these are the Grizzlies and they cannot shoot the ball, so I dropped back to 7-3, putting us at 20-16 as well.

I know this is most likely crazy talk because of how we have been shooting the ball, but I had to have some sort of hope to hold on to until Zach gets back.

Well, it gives me hope because last year after the same number of games Memphis had a losing record of 12-16. Also, 28 games is 42.5% of the season and for the regular 82 game season that would be 35 games. Last year the Grizz were 16-19.

The Grizzlies are getting better even though it might not look like it. The bench is playing more and better than the start of the season. Hopefully ZBo is coming back in a couple of weeks.

I think we will make the playoffs.

So disappointed that the record hasn't been updated yet. We were 14-14, but won last night, and now I need to know where we stand. :D

Grizzlies are continuing to hold on until Zach gets back.

Just curious how many people realize the Grizzlies have their 2nd best record in history thru 33 games this season?

I've definitely noticed and I'm thrilled! Under normal circumstances, I would consider 19-15 to be a very good record at this point. But factoring that we are playing in a condensed schedule with virtually no down time, and recalling that we've been without out best player for basically the entire season, I would say 4 games above .500 is AMAZING right now.

I'm still baffled as to why the overall attitude towards the team had been negative thus far. It seems as though a good portion of Grizz fans were expecting us to come out and be the best team in the league or something. At this point, I would almost be shocked if the Grizzlies missed the Playoffs.

Agreed. But what makes you say the overall additude has been negative? On the boards, or Memphis/attendance-wise?

Well both really. The tone on the board has seemed exceptionally negative this year for some reason. This thread, for example, has received virtually no attention, while other "complaint" threads seem to get page after page of replies.

And the game attendance has been very mediocre thus far. Coming off our Playoff success last year, I thought this was going to be the season Memphis would finally come out and support its NBA team. Yet it's still been a struggle to even get a decent crowd out to non-marquee games. Our last game, for example, had an announced attendance for 14,000. Considering our record, and the fact that it was the last game for over a week, I thought there would be at least 16-17K in the house.

I hate to say it, but I just really don't think Memphis is an NBA city. Unless it's a Playoff game or a game against a high-profile opponent, we can never sell out the Forum. It's sad but true.

I think if you discount the couple of obvious troll that are nowhere to be seen now that the team is clicking (hi thunderthighs!) the tone is similar to other years. We win a game and we're championship contenders all of a sudden, we lose a game and we need to blow up the team in a fire sale.

The attendance numbers are a problem, but we're still in a recession and if you take that into account we're not doing that bad. I do agree that won't cut it in the long run.

I definitely get what you're saying, but I'm just not sure the economy can be used as a legitimate excuse for the poor attendance numbers. I know we are one of the smaller markets, but still, many of the teams in our position (Portland, Utah, OKC, heck even Minnesota) have been able to consistently draw respectable crowds.

Besides, even with the recession's shadow still looming, 18,000 people isn't a huge amount for a city of Memphis' size. I think the Tigers' ability to bring in people (while significantly underachieving) is proof that Memphis can and will support a basketball team. But for some reason, our NBA just isn't appreciated for the most part.

My counter to that was the attendance for the Saturday evening, Feb. 18 Golden State game compared to the attendance for the Tigers in the afternoon game against UTEP. Neither game against a "major" big name opponent, but both important for the team. Both teams coming off emotional wins (Grizzlies the night before on the Cunningham tip-in, Tigers having destroyed Tulane). Attendance for the Tigers - 16,427. Grizzlies - 17,151. And that is after having 15,201 in the night before for the Denver game.

Wow, last year through 34 games, we were 15-19 and this year we are 19-15, and we havent had Zach, and we have played the #1 toughest schedule in the league. That is an 8 game improvement over last season. Got to give LHoll and the guys some credit. They have done as well as could be expected.

Also, we have lost to only 1 team that was below .500 when we played them and that is Phoenix. Utah and Boston are below .500 now but not when we played them. I remember last year, we would inexplicably lose to teams like NJ twice and Washington without John Wall, Cleveland. This year, got to give the Grizz credit for at least beating the teams they are supposed to beat.
