Grading Last Year's Opening Night Roster Vs Post Marc Trade Vs Opening Night 2019

hopefully more entertaining means more wins.
  2. Hey guys. I just wanted to get a feel of how the board feels about the roster going into opening night. Some people have us winning a small amount of games this year and not be competitive. As some of you know, I think this team can be a dark horse playoff team if things break right. We certainly can be a 35-40ish win team, but this thread isn't about win/loss total. Is pisses me off that Vegas has us projected to win 27 games this year. This thread is to get a feel of how talented and or deep you guys think the roster is. I personally think this is the most talented and deep roster we have had in the last 3 years. We have had a lot of fringe NBA guys on this roster, even going back to opening night last year and still remained a pretty competitive team. Feel free to chime in. Opening Night Line up 2018 and the bench behind it 1. Mike Conley- Starting PG with Jazz/ Shelvin Mack- signed to a minimum contract, currently a FA 2. Garret Temple- back up SG with Nets/ Wayne Selden- close to signing Euro League deal /Marshon Brooks- signed in China 3. Kyle Anderson/ Omri Casspi- just signed a deal overseas 4. JJJ/ Ja Michael- back up pf for clippers 5. Marc/ noah- currently a FA Post Marc Trade 1. Mike Conley- Delon Wright- signed with Mavs 2. Avery Bradley-signed with Lakers- Justin Holiday-signed with Pacers 3. Mix of Bruno/Justin Holiday/CJ miles. Injuries played a big factor here 4. Ivan/Bruno 5.Jv/noah/zeller Potential opening night roster 2019 1. Ja/ Tyus Jones 2. Josh Jackson/ Dillon/Grayson 3. Jae Crowder/Kyle Anderson/bruno 4. JJJ/ Brandon Clarke/Bruno/kyle Anderson 5. Jv/ Plumlee I think it speaks to the front office in regards to how this team has legit NBA players on it and not fringe guys anymore. Its crazy to see so many guys from that opening night roster not In the league anymore. The opening night roster last year was respectable for the first month of the season until guys started, well, playing how players of their caliber should play. It wasn't their fault that the team expected big time production from guys who literally a year later, are not in the league or are back ups. The roster post Marc trade was very competitive in most of its games last year. We won some we shouldn't have won but lost a lot more than we should have lost. Still, it was a respectable roster. This years potential roster has a great mixture of talent with depth. We have a legit Back up PG in Tyus Jones who obviously is an up grade over Shelvin Mack and should perform no worse than what Delon Wright was able to give. Josh Jackson, if he starts, should produce at a decent starting level given his talent. The depth behind him at the SG is better than Wayne Seldon and Marshon Brooks, although some may argue that Dillon and Grayson have a lot to prove. Obvisously sending your starting SF to the bench only boosters that unit. We all know kyle can play, but he's probably a high end reserve in todays NBA than a starter. of course JJJ in year two should be better than rookie JJJ. Lastly, JV is the better player than Marc at this point so of course we have the better player there. Nevertheless, for those that don't believe, this team will be very competitive from the first game and if things hit with Ja like they did with Trey young or Luka, and if Jaren takes a step to 18 ppg - 20 ppg in his second year, and we stay relatively injury free, watch out for this team.

Grizzlies get Josh Jackson from Suns

I love the pick up Josh Jackson. the guy can play. will be on his 3rd coach in 3 years like Dillon will be but I think this coach will be his best and get the best out of him. Read yesterday that the coach last year for phoenix wanted to make him a defensive stopper primarily and he's so much more than that. I expect him to start at SG this year. if he pops and lives up to his top 5 draft status, man, this team could be special THIS YEAR. as for his off the court stuff, I think he will be fine. he HAS to learn to control his emotions but they come from a good place. he's competitive and wants to win but he has to harness that. Coach Jenkins is the same way. During some of those summer league time outs when he was addressing the team, you could see the FIRE in his eyes and he wasn't even really mad at them. Coach even talked about how he can get worked up and how his competive fire is. I think he will get the best not just out of Josh but out of all the young guys. We have better vets on the team also that can help lead him. Way more than Phoenix did anyway.

I would love this. Jerome can play. add him to the young wings we have and let the fight it out for playing time.

Grizz Acquire Iguodala, 1st Round Pick from GS

GRIZZ are playoff bound in 2019

you're missing my point. I only listed Colin Sexton's numbers because in your previous post to me, you sounded like you didn't believe Ja could put up 15 ppg in his rookie year because Mike Conley didn't do it. I then showed you that averaging 15 ppg in todays nba isn't that hard for a pg that plays 30 plus minutes a night. Colin Sexton was just an example of that. His team's wins had nothing to do with what I was saying.

another example would be colin sexton just last year as well. he is way more raw of a prospect than Ja is, yet given starter minutes this past year, he average 15 a game if I'm not mistaken. So ja averaging 15, at worse, is more than reasonable to me.

GRIZZ are playoff bound in 2019

at least you're reasonable. like I have been saying. ja is important but a TEAM makes the playoffs and the grizz have 6 vets who have played BIG playoff minutes to help carry the young guys and a coach that has been to conference finals and on 60 win teams. we aint gonna be the suns or kings.. we actually have good, experienced role players who can still play and help the young guys while we win. CJ, Delon, and Jonas all have made the playoffs the last 3 years. Kyle Anderson, made the playoffs every year of his career until last year. Avery Bradley has been to the playoffs with Boston. Corver has made numerous playoff teams and so has Jae Crowder.

i honestly don't see how anybody who looks at the players on this roster, their production, and age and see how this year is gonna be bad. yall are just saying that cause the media is saying that and it requires no extra thinking on your part. again, the grizz have 6 vets on the team as it stands with multiple playoff games and series under their belts who can still play. this team definielty wont suck or be bad.

GRIZZ are playoff bound in 2019

because if you actually analyze the team instead of making assumptions, you would see how possible it is. forward thinking, not negative thinking. its also quite pathetic how many "fans" on this message board seem content with pessimistic thinking and expecting the worse with a team they love. I'm not saying be a homer or blind fan, just think for yourself and you'd see this team has good talent to supplement its young guys, 6 playoff vets who are gonna get big minutes and who know how to win. we aint the suns, kings, or mavs. we actually don't have to go thru a hard rebuild. we could bounce back fast

GRIZZ are playoff bound in 2019

and that's low for real. delon is gonna average more than 8 and I think Jaren is gonna give us more than 16. hell he gave us 14 in only 25 minute per game. imagine what he's gonna do with 35 minutes per night assuming he has fixed his fouling issue. he also average 4 fouls in 25 minutes per game which is not good.

the warriors wont have a better roster than most teams in the west in 2019.

i see your point, but yes. ja morant is way more nba ready and developed than mike was when he came out. his overall game is way better than what mike's was. these guys are coming in nowadays ready to hoop mane. look at trey young and luka. trey averaged 19ppg and luca gave the league 21 ppg. if any legit pg is playing over 30 minutes per night, they are gonna average double figure points. ja is more than legit. I even heard that jerry west was praising how nba ready ja is. 15 ppg for ja is the minimum. I don't wanna put to much on him but I could definitely see him going for more. hell, how many people last year would have pegged Jaren as a 14 ppg player his rookie year? ja is more nba ready than Jaren was to me. and Jaren averaged 14 in only 25 min. imagine what he's gonna do with 34 minutes per night. I think its feasible.
