Memphis Grizzlies and NBA Roster Moves

TJ Warren, not sure if they are interested and he will have to prove he can stay healthy but potentially could provide scoring off of the bench Yeah, I didn't have any hopes they would truly sign anyone outside of Tyus and Ja's extension. I do think a trade may happen before the season though

    JJJ Stress fracture

I don't mean to scare people or increase people's anxiety (well, probably too late) but while looking up some info on TJ Warren, it occurred to me, he's been out almost 2 seasons because of a stress fractures in his foot I hope this doesn't become a chronic problem (sorry for being a downer, I'm finished, I'm out, bye!)

    Where Do We Stand?

Obviously, free agency hasn't started yet but I just wanted to get an idea on where people feel we stand right now going into next season? Better? Worse? You in it for the long game so it doesn't matter if we fall back? Just looking at the standings from last year, I'm wondering if we will even be a top 6 seed next year: Last year's standings: Phoenix-Who knows what happens with Ayton. I'm assuming he stays there. I will say they are ahead of us at the moment Us Golden State- If GS stays healthy next season, they more than likely will have a better record than us Dallas- Dallas had a rocky start with a new coach in Jason Kidd but was on fire after the All Star Break. I'm assuming they will have a better record than us next year if things stay as they are Utah- They suck and will probably blow their team up so we should be ahead of them Denver- Jamal Murray will return to a team with a 2 x MVP. There's pretty good reason to believe they will at least be comparable when it comes to wins Minny- Still the dumbest team in the NBA but they have a lot of talent, I think they will be bunched in with us, Denver, etc Pelicans- Zion will be healthy (who knows how long) but if he stays healthy, they will exceed us. Zion is better than anyone on our team, B. Ingram and CJ McCollum are better than anyone on our team not named Ja. If they are healthy, they more than likely will be better than us Clippers- John Wall will sign with the Clips so if Wall, Kawhi and PG are all healthy, yes, they will probably be better than us. Spurs-We should still be better Who knows what happens with the Lakers BUT, I see 5 teams that can clearly be better than us next year (PHX, GS, DAL, NOP, and LAC) and then I see another 2 or 3 teams that may be just as good (DEN, Minny, and maybe LAL) depending on the moves they make. Obviously, so much of this hinges on team health, chemistry and moves made during FA but I'm wondering if we will take a massive step back next year, especially if we are planning on relying on a bunch of rookies to contribute next season.

Not a big Gobert fan but pairing him with an offensive big like KAT is gonna be a problem and then you add in Ant Edwards. Man oh man.

They also added Christian Wood and Tim Hardway, Jr. returns. Luka is playing a series of friendly matches right now and he appears to be in really good shape when I saw him earlier this week Yes, he's in pretty good shape right now.

    Where Do We Stand?

Exactly. Not sure why people on this board aren't taking the rest of the West seriously. What we did last year was great but it was also some luck and we started to build up our confidence and relied heavily on our defense. We're losing 2 of our peskiest defenders in Melton and Anderson. Sure, they were bench players but they were disruptive on defense and threw teams off. We're going to start the season missing JJJ who led the league in blocks. The Clippers are getting a healthy Kawhi Leonard and Paul George and adding John Wall. Denver is getting Jamal Murray back. New Orleans is getting Zion back to add to CJ McCollum and Brandon Ingram and we're sitting here talking about how John Konchar, Jake LaRavia and David Roddy will seamlessly fit in and keep us at a 2 or 3 seed. WTF? I don't think we will fall out of the playoffs but I do see a nice fall coming next season. Hopefully JJJ will be back by ASB and we can get in a groove and make a nice run in the playoffs.

    Where Do We Stand?

Just curious, why do you think they wouldn't have the Mavs finishing ahead of us? Now granted, I live in Dallas and listen to sports talk radio alot here and interact with tons of Mavs fan. I'm telling you right now, they thought they were better than us last season and they wanted to see the Grizz in the playoffs to prove they were better than us. I mean, they did win the season series 3-1.They had a new coach in Jason Kidd, Luka came in out of shape, they weren't seeing eye to eye but by the time they got their stuff together, the Mavs won 74% of their games to finish the season after the ASB and beat the overall #1 seed in the Phoenix Suns in the playoffs and made the WCF. Why wouldn't oddsmakers have them ahead of us, even with JJJ but especially now without JJJ? And btw, I think the Clippers are a definite yes if healthy and Denver picked up a couple of nice additions not to mention that Jamal Murray will be back as well.

Yeah, TJ Warren would be my target but I do wonder why he's still available. It could be the injury history. I like him as a gunner off of the bench.

The 2022 NBA Free Agents & trades

Well, that's part of the reason I started the thread on Where We Stand. Personally, I think we will fall back farther than most on this board think. There are teams who were missing their stars and we will likely fall behind those teams, especially with JJJ out

Geez. Is there anyone left? I think with Tyus signing we only have the NTP MLE now. Pretty non-eventful FA for us. I wonder if we plan on anymore moves like a trade. I would assume they try to trade Green's contract (and maybe Tillman or Tillie) for like a trade exception or something. Then again, they may try to keep Tillman for depth.

    JJJ Stress fracture

Well, originally I said after the ASB and after watching this video, I assume the same. I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if he were out for the season. Also, when you factor in the Grizz tend to bring guys back more slowly and the fact that the team really isn't transparent when it comes to injuries, nothing would surprise me.

    JJJ Stress fracture

Sure, but JJJ seemed to heal slowly after his last big injury. Not only that, we definitely don't want to rush an injury-prone big man back who now has foot problems. I'm assuming worst case scenario. Sorry, I don't see much reason to be optimistic about it. If he returns much earlier, that's great. I'll take it as a pleasant surprise.

    Where Do We Stand?

I don't think a lot of people understand this. That's part of the reason I posted this. I don't see us going 19-5 if Ja is out for an extended period of time again. Last year we were hunters and snuck up on a lot teams. A lot of teams were missing superstar players. This year, we will be the hunted since we were the #2 seed last year, that's a big difference, not to mention several superstars returning form injury. I think we will win in the mid 40s and hopefully be fully healthy for a playoff run but I don't get people just brushing off losing 2 key defensive players to other teams and losing a 1st Team All Defensive guy to injury and thinking we're just going to replace them with rookies and keep on rolling and keep on winning.Experience matters, you rarely see inexperienced teams win big in this league.

    JJJ Stress fracture

Yeah, I forgot his name. Here's a foot specialist/surgeon's take on it: He mentions that even after he heals completely (4-6 months), you have to take it easy for awhile and not jump right back into activities.I get the feeling Jaren may be out to late in the season, but that's just me.

    Where Do We Stand?

Well, our defense helped carry us last year. We won't have 3 of our 3 best defensive players going into next year. Melton and Kyle were very disruptive and led the team in steals. They're contribution will be missed on the defensive end but there were times when Melton came in and lit it up as well. Now JJJ, our defensive anchor and rim protector, is gone for who knows how long. We still have Dillon who is our best perimeter defender (well, we still have him for now, who knows if he will be on the roster come October) but I think he will need to carry more of the offensive load with JJJ out. It's not doom and gloom and obviously, there's still a lot of time to sign other FAs and make trades but I don't think relying on rookies is a successful formula. Inexperience generally doesn't bode well when it comes to winning in the NBA. Players have to adjust. It's not like these are all lottery picks. Heck, LaRavia and Roddy may be the only ones who get significant playing time next year but we've lost a lot of experience (including playoff experience) and a lot of defensive expertise and at least for the moment seem to be replacing them with rookies, not even lottery pick rookies but late first round rookies. We'll see how it works out.

Kleiman was hired for his current position in April 2019 and Tyus signed in July 2019. Even with that being said, I think he had more sway than Wallace when he was (technically) under Wallace.

    JJJ Stress fracture

Hmm, after doing a quick Google search, it seems like surgery for a stress fracture is rare. They typically recommend stabilizing it first and very conservative treatments over a period of weeks. Even then most things says it takes about 6-8 weeks to heal at the latest. If he had surgery, I wonder if it's something more than a stress fracture. A stress fracture is a thin crack. Why would he need surgery for that? Also, it sounds like this is something that was already there. I doubt if he injured himself this week and they immediately jumped to surgery. That doesn't sound like the protocol for stress fracture in your foot. I don't think they are being upfront, either about the injury itself or the recovery time. It's not jibing with stuff I see from sports medicine doctors/orthopedist and podiatrists sites.

    JJJ Stress fracture

I heard that JJJ was on Twitter earlier this week showing his workouts. I was listening to Parrish and he mentioned that someone texted him that he injured himself during a workout so they are assuming it happened earlier this week. The surgery happened yesterday.
