Look Ahead for the Final Stretch....How Many WIns

Welp, 1-2 with 3 more to go. Let's see what happens!!
  2. Well good people, we have 6 more games left in the first half of the season. We are currently sitting at .500 with a 13-13 record. How will the Grizz close out the first half of the season? 2/22- @ Dallas Loss 2/25- vs. LA Clippers Win 2/26- vs. LA Clippers Loss 2/28- @ Houston 3/2- @ Washington 3/4- vs Milwaukee

He's 1-dimensional. When your dimension is taken away, you're pretty useless. Exactly

In addition to that, certain players get individual bonuses per their contract by making the All-Star team:

    bad brooks

Does this take into account that Dillon is generally guarding the other team's top scorer (and more than likely best offensive player on the court)? Is it adjusted for that? I mean, it would be hard for him to "save" defensive points right if he's constantly facing the top scorer?

    Winslow??

Well, just being realistic, Brooks is a better spot up shooter as opposed to creating his own shot. The more weapons there are on the floor, the more effective Dilly will be. I keep telling people that he is trying way too hard but at the same time it seems like his coach and teammates are fine with it cause no one else wants to step up. This season, Kyle has stepped up in a big way but the team still relies on DIllon to do more than he is capable of doing on a regular basis. This team is still Ja and the Ja'ettes featuring JV and once JJJ returns, it will be Ja and the Ja'ettes featuring JJJ and JV. Dillon will be fine as we add more talent.

    All Star Ja

IDK about that. Zion has been pretty healthy this year and producing at a high rate. If he were on the Grizz, I think people would be more than thrilled. He deserved it. He may not care for D but Ja Morant ain't Gary Payton on D either, heck, Ja ain't even Chucky Atkins, he's horrible on D as is a lot of people in the NBA. Everyone has something they can improve on. Williamson has also played 31 games this season, way more than Ja. I think it's way too early to make predictions. I'd rather wait after 5 years to see what type of player Zion is. Right now he is the real deal.

    Winslow??

In Curry's first 8 seasons he played in at least 74 games in all but 1 season where he played 26 out of 66 games. He's been injured more the past 4 years than his first 8 years. Justise is in year 6 and has only had 1 season where he has played more than 69 games and 2 seasons where he has played less than 20 games. I don't see the comparison.

    Winslow??

So he goes out and basically does what he is supposed to do and we get "I told ya so, where are the haters now?" type posts? Really? All he did was produce at his career average rate so this should be expected. The defense should be expected, that's why we got him right? As I mentioned earlier, some people just expect him to be him. Others have much higher expectations. I don't have many expectations but I expect him to do what he did. With that being said, Clarke had almost identical numbers and KA had better numbers. He is a contributor and role player just like those guys but those guys are all just guys, good role players. None will put us over the top.Collectively they can help but we will still be short of being a consistently good team. With that being said, Tyus had a career high in scoring and a highly efficient night. This was a team win, not sure why the focus on Justise having an ok game and why people are doing cartwheels and screaming I told you so:

    Predict JJJ's Return

Ok, so now that we have Justise back after him being out a minute (more like 2 months and 25 games), when does everyone expect JJJ to return?
  12. Ole Dirty Klondike

    All Star Ja

An argument could be made that the game is not for you (or even me or most of the board these days). I think they are trying to target middle school, hs up to about mid-20s to acquire new fans.

    Grizz 2nd half schedule

Oh well, they have to make up the 6 missed games. It's gonna be rough but hey, look at the bright side....increases our chance for a higher lottery pick. There's going to be a lot of bad rotations and people resting so I wouldn't expect any stability. 3 games against Utah, 3 games against GS, 3 games against POR, 3 against DEN, 2 against DAL....could easily be 14 losses right there, it's going to brutal

    Winslow??

It's only 2 games but dude has a -4.95 PER. That's a NEGATIVE 4.95 PER. I don't think the majority of people on this board are judging his potential production off of two games. I think they are judging it on the fact that he is a career 9 pt, 5 reb, 2.7 apg guy who shoots a career % of 41% from the field, 33% from 3 and 64% from FT. That's who he is, that's who he has always been. He had one "breakout year" and that was still pretty average. The last time he was on the court for the Heat, he averaged 11 pts, 6 boards and 4 assists which is decent but he also shot 38% from the field and 22% from 3. He kind of is who he is. Has anyone really been clamoring to trade Justise Winslow? He is basically in the last year of his deal unless they pick up his option. Who can we even get for him? I can't imagine his trade value is that high after the injuries and a negative PER. With that being said, I think there are 2 camps around here concerning Justise. In one camp, they think he still has tons of potential and will produce at a rate that he has never produced before in the NBA.They look at the career year he had in 2018-19 and say it can only go up from there and he will exceed that production in MEM. Then there's the other camp, which includes myself, who looks at him and say, he's in his sixth year and even in his best year, he only put up slightly above average numbers while not shooting well plus he has been injury prone. It's all about managing expectations. The first group's expectation is he hasn't reached his potential and he will reach that here. The second group expectation is, Justise is who he is. The first group may be disappointed or the second group may be surprised, we shall see but I think his track record speaks for itself. Don't get me wrong, I do think he can make us slightly better as he gives us more depth to go with Kyle and Dillon but I also think he and Kyle are redundant (and KA is playing way better). I also think non of them are starters unless you have a true superstar in the mix so it's a logjam of guys who can contribute but aren't good enough to be productive starters. Yes, they can be supplemental guys who start if you have a true superstar but we don't have that yet.

Is Ja a top 5 G in the West?

You know. I was listening to the Daily Memphian podcast and they were talking about the probability of Ja being an All Star (which was basically zero). They also mentioned that Ja had "outgrown" the dunk contest because that's really for rising stars and Ja was past that level as a real star and rising superstar. I thought to myself, "is he really past that though?". I'm not big on the dunk contest anymore but I do think it could help increase his brand if he won it. I personally don't think he is "past" anything. Are we overvaluing Ja? With that being said, a serious question is, are we overvaluing Ja? Is he really as good as Grizz fans think he is? Is he even a top 5 G in the West? It's obvious that he's the best draft pick for the Grizz since Pau Gasol but If you look at the list of guards, I think it's debatable if Ja is even a top 10 G in the West let alone the league: Steph Curry Luka Doncic Damian Lillard Donovan Mitchell Devin Booker Shai Gilgeous Alexander De'Aron Fox Paul George (who is listed as G) CJ McCollum Mike Conly Chris Paul John Wall DeMar DeRozan Injured- Klay Thompson Is Ja better than any of these guys? Is he a top 5 G in the West? Heck, is he even a top 10 G in the West. Where would you rank him and notice, this is just the West. I didn't even include the East where there are numerous G's clearly better than Ja.

    Suggs is very good

OK, can you be a little more clear? I'm not sure I know where you stand with Suggs?

    Nice Dose of Reality

In the words of Soul II Soul "Back to life, Back to Reality" Look, I'm fine with this 4 game losing streak...why? Because it shows us that we still have clear holes to fill on this roster and that our team isn't good enough. We need to improve. I'm sorry, some people may not like this, but I'll say it. We need to be in the lottery. Why? Because if we keep hovering around the 7 or 8 seed and getting in the play in series, we may be like that for the next 2 or 3 years and as Jerry West would say "be stuck in the mud". It will be nice when JJJ and Winslow return, but seriously, at this point does anyone expect either back before the All-Star break or even at all this season? I don't think the return of either or both of those guys will change much. We need another star and the lottery is the best path to do that. I would rather add a star to our current mix which pushes guys like Dillon and Anderson down the totem pole but keep them around as bench players than trade like 3 or 4 key contributors to get 1 star player (which no one is realistically available right now) because in essence it may just be a lateral move. Sure, you get another "star" but you lose your depth and quality bench players.

    Suggs is very good

I'm confused. What is your opinion of Jalen Suggs? Do you think he is a good player or not? You seem to be very ambigious of your opinion of him. Yeah, it's a matter of if we are in a position to acquire those 2 types of players. If we can acquire 2 players like that in the offseason, it's on and popping for next season. The logjam can be figured out for future assets.

Is Ja a top 5 G in the West?

Yes, we're good. I was pretty lucky and came out unscathed unlike many others. Thanks for asking. As far as Porzingis, I think the fans like the potential but have lost hope with his injuries. He was injured when traded here, so fans were patient, he played a good amount last year but got injured again and had to have surgery and now with this latest injury, I think people are losing hope he will ever stay on the floor. With that being said, Cuban said he isn't shopping him but that could be company talk.

    Winslow??

They're basically the same player to me and we need more talent so that both of them can come off of the bench.I'm not worried about trying to analyze which of those 2 should start, it's not going to be the difference between 15 wins or something. Justise is not a 2. He and Kyle are redundant. Not saying it's a bad thing. Thing is, Melton is similar as well. I don't think any of them are starters unless we get a bona fide superstar. This is all band-aids, bubblegum and toothpicks holding stuff together until we get a dominant scorer at the swingman position. I don't even think the F.O. is even worried about winning at this point. They want that top 5 lotto pick more than I do.
  22. Ole Dirty Klondike

    Winslow??

ITA on Brandon as I mentioned in another thread, I don't think BC should be starting. As a matter offact, as soon as Dillon comes back, I'm sure he will be back on the bench but it goes to the development stuff. I think they realize they are not going anywhere so they want to give certain guys like BC, Tillman and Grayson a shot. I don't want to see that tbh. BC is a good player if used correctly, depending on him as a starting frontcourt starter. Of course Dillon is more efficient when there is another player on the floor that defenses have to worry about. It takes the pressure off of him. Someone else scoring means that Dillon doesn't have to chuck up as many shots and he will take more spot up jumpers with no one guarding him.
  23. Ole Dirty Klondike

    Winslow??

Understood but once again, I think Dillon is trying to do more than he is capable of doing (physically, skillwise) to help the team. It doesn't always work but sometimes it does and that's good enough for me. I really haven't criticized Jaren that much. He just needs to stay healthy, stop fouling and rebound more. If he did those things, he could be a solid #2 in this league but, he is also looked at as one of our stars so he will be criticized more. The fouling stuff is a concern because it's not like many people (especially stars) in the league just commit dumb foul after dumb foul. As far as Justise, I really haven't criticized him that much. I just think people's expectations of him are out of whack with his actual talent level. He is who he is and we have several years of evidence of who he is. I'm not going to expect much more. The injuries are a concern because they are weird injuries and it has taken him forever to return from. Yes, I think it will help to have both Dillon and Justise. They could take the pressure off of each other but at the end of the day, it's not like they will give us 10 more wins by playing together. It's a limit on their talent level. Now Grayson, that's another story. I just don't think he's that valuable and have no idea why TJ is starting him. Yes, he can get hot but he is a 1-dimensional player. 3 point shooting can be spotty. I wouldn't want someone in the starting lineup who has 1 skill. If he isn't hitting shots as he has not in the past 2 games, he gives you nothing. He may get a couple of rebounds here and there but those are empty stats that don't affect the actual game. Grayson's defense is horrible. You just don't put guys who don't offer much more in the starting lineup imo. You will suffer as a team but then again we may not be trying to win so it may not matter.

    Winslow??

I agree with pretty much everything you just said but haven't you been one of Dillon's biggest critics? That's what I don't understand. the past two years, I see no reason to criticize Dillon because he's doing what the coach asks but he's also trying to do more than he is capable of doing to help the team. I don't understand the criticism because after Ja and JV no one else is stepping up. I mean, you sure, Kyle may go off here and there, same for Grayson or whoever.
