    ESPN Sophomore Rankings? Where's JJJ?

How do you guys feel about the rankings below? Jaren comes in at #4 on one list and #5 on the other list: Top-10 Rankings RANK PELTON SCHMITZ 1 Luka Doncic Luka Doncic 2 Trae Young Shai Gilgeous-Alexander 3 Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Trae Young 4 Jaren Jackson Jr. Deandre Ayton 5 Deandre Ayton Jaren Jackson Jr. 6 Devonte' Graham Mitchell Robinson 7 Mitchell Robinson Collin Sexton 8 Donte DiVincenzo Devonte' Graham 9 Duncan Robinson Donte DiVincenzo 10 Mikal Bridges Marvin Bagley III I find it funny that the guy's argument is that people thought that JJJ's game was superior to Ayton, yet Ayton was the #1 pick and JJJ was the #4 pick. Makes no sense.

Is Justise Winslow the only Grizz of significance (possible starter) without any reference to Memphis or Memphis Grizzlies in his Twitter profile?

    Grizzlies Bubble Rotation. Discuss.

Horford's an old man now at 34 years old. He has 3 more years on his contract after this season avg $27 mil per year. Sorry, but don't want him tying up cap space as an old man.

So, on return, how will the minutes be divided

If you look at his gait as he is running towards the basket and then the brief capture of his face, it looks like his hair and beard to me.

    ESPN Sophomore Rankings? Where's JJJ?

I was just telling someone the other day that I would like to see JJJ add the sky hook to his repertoire. As a very long 6'11 PF, it would be very hard for other PFs to defend and would be 2 easy points in the paint. I would like to see JJJ sneak in some easy points and not rely so much on the 3 point shot for everything. He can collect easy points in the paint and from the FT line and still shoot the 3. I don't want him always shooting the 3 to get his points.

    32 wins ....so far

Well, i hope they finish the season above .500, meaning they would have to go 5-3 in these 8 games.

I’m saying it.. The NBA is rigged..

From my understanding ( I haven't double checked), the Pels remaining schedule is slightly harder than it would have been if they played the season out and the Grizz's schedule is slightly easier than it would have been. Yes the Pels have the easiest schedule and the Grizz have one of the hardest but 8 teams are missing. Teams that are doormats. The Pels can't play those teams and rack up easy victories like they would have if the season continued. There's no conspiracy but obviously the NBA wants a Zion-LeBron matchup in the 1st round. All the Grizz have to do is take care of business and they will prevent that from happening.

Can this NBA season be saved?

[sarcasm] But he has CBS by his name and a blue check Chip so he MUST know what he's talking about right [/sarcasm off]

IDK, if he can consistently shoot around 40% from 3 and score 20 ppg, he may be worth it, plus his salary is decreasing as the years go along which is an advantage. I think Boggy (SAC) will get something similar to Boggy (UTA), probably in the high teens, $17-$19 million per yer. Well, strike that, that was before COVID. Now, I'm not sure what the market is but I do think he could thrive in a system like ours. We could have Dillon as the 6th man, he would still score double digits. We would be a problem for most teams in the league.

Of course.😁 We need to join the crowd as well because it could get us closer to getting back to being a perennial playoff threat as well as make deep runs.

I guess more along the lines of Thompson, a shooter. We don't need anyone else dominating the ball or overdribbling like DeRozen. Ja is the main ball handler and dominater, that's all we need. i'm looking at someone like a Buddy Hield or Bogdonavic (either SAC or UTA but I don't think the UTA one is going anywhere) They would light it up in Jenkins' system. now, this poses another problem as far as defense goes, but we'd figure it out. I would love an elite 3 and D guy but how many of those exist and how many could we realistically get? We may be able to realistically get Hield or Bogdonavic.

    ESPN Sophomore Rankings? Where's JJJ?

Hopefully Yep, agreed. There may be some slackers but there will be no time to catch up. Didn't JJJ work out with KG? This sums it up. I think he has the talent and the ability to be a superstar, I just don't see him increasing his BBIQ and intangibles and doing the work to become one though. I could be wrong.

    ESPN Sophomore Rankings? Where's JJJ?

Maybe so. I'm not writing him off or anything but quite honestly even when we drafted him, i just felt he would be a good Robin if we could find a Batman. Ja on the other hand, he has star and potential superstar written all over him but i don't know if he will live up to that potential either. it's always a crapshoot. I would love to see a high scoring swingman on this team. I think it would just change the dynamics and free up Ja and Jaren to dominate. Right now, Dillon is the third guy but he's streaky. If JJJ gets in foul trouble, it basically leaves us with only Ja and JV. I just think we need a dominate scorer on the wing to really be a perennial playoff team that goes deep. Maybe Jaren turns into a 20+ppg, i have no clue. But I do think we need to keep Jonas as long as possible. He helps with JJJ's deficiencies right now.

Oh me too. I enjoy having him on the team and would like to see him on the team for a long time. I just don't see him being a superstar. He was teh best pick at #4 for us that year so I'm fine with him. Hopefully.

    ESPN Sophomore Rankings? Where's JJJ?

I just don't see him being a superstar. I mean, he very well may be but right now, I look at him as a Rudy Gay type. Rudy was a good player. He avg around 20 and 6 from that SF spot for us and we haven't had that since. if Jaren can avg high teens/low 20 ppg and around 6 rpg, I'd be thrilled. I would have liked to have seen JJJ improve on his 2 biggest deficiencies from his rookie year (rebounding, fouling) and he didn't. If you look at his stats and adjust them for minutes played, most of his stats stayed flat from his rookie year to second year. His biggest statistical jump was in 3 pt %. His rebounding was down per 40 min played , his rebound rate was down, his assists went up slightly when adjusted for minutes and his true shooting % stayed flat. The biggest concerns for me are that his FG% went down from 50% to 46%. His 3 pt attempts went from about 23% of his overall attempts to 48% of his shot attempts. So basically, 1 out of every 2 shots he took was a 3 and this is from a 6'11" "big". He shot 39% from 3 which is great but he needs to balance that out some imo. He could pick up easy points in the paint just dropping it over people and picking up up fouls. Which leads to my next concern, his FT% and FTA dropped as well. I would have thought he would have improved on most of these things but he didn't. The only thing he really improved on was his 3 point shooting. Right now, he is a 6'11" three and d wing to me. A perimeter player who doesn't want to go inside or rebound. Now who knows, maybe it's Taylor Jenkins' system, maybe it's Ja not setting him up correctly, but dude is a long 6'11" who has a mismatch almost every night and could easily lay it in, as most PF are between 6'8"-6'10". I mean, like i said. it could be the system but he could easily get 3-5 more ppg by doing just a little bit more inside imo. Also concerning to me is his basic court awareness and positioning. He's the son of an NBA player. You would think he's been around NBA players all of his life and has gotten guidance and pointers on what to do. If anything, he should have an advantage in this area but to me he doesn't and that's why he picks up so many ticky tack fouls. If he had a better feel for positioning on both ends of the floor, his fouls would go down, rebounds would go up and he could get easier points in the paint. None of this is dogging Jaren. He's a good young player. He has a great attitude and seems to be a great team ambassador. I just question if he can be a superstar or lead dog that's all. I just think he's best utilized as a 3rd option, maybe 2nd if everything falls into place. I expected a bigger improvement from his 1st to 2nd year. Who knows, maybe it happens in year 3.

    ESPN Sophomore Rankings? Where's JJJ?

I agree that he can be, but "can be"and "will be" are two different things. "Can be" is about ability, so yes, he has the ability to be a top 10 player, but will he be? I don't think so but maybe I'm being pessimistic. Blame it on the 'Rona. He has talent and can be a unique presence in the league but I don't see him reaching his potential. I look at him as a Rudy Gay type guy. A guy who is really good but always leave you wanting more and year after year you think he's going to give you more. He shows flashes but never puts it all together and that's not a slight at Rudy. He was a good player but he was a good 2nd option at best and more suited to be a third option. That's where I see JJJ going now and that's good actually. I'm not calling him Stromile or anything. Good points.

Can this NBA season be saved?

I agree they traded for him to be the starter in the long run but I think they expected to ramp him up a few games before becoming the starter. I don't know if he would have started the next game. Obviously he's the starter for next season but for these next 8 games, I'm not certain he will be. I think they will try to retain Melton at the expense of JJ. I think SloMo and Allen are expendable. I think they would trade those 2 to keep Melton and JJ, who knows. Before the season ended, most of the talk I heard was that they didn't expect him back but then again, that was before they shut down for a pandemic. i have no idea what the salary cap or the NBA finances will look like going into next year.

    ESPN Sophomore Rankings? Where's JJJ?

Honestly, i think JJJ needs to be our 3rd best player in order for us to be a solid team that has deep runs in the playoffs. Obviously Ja would be one of the top 2 but we don't really have anyone else on the roster who could fill the other spot. I think we have a really good team of solid role players who will get better as they play together more but our ceiling is low unless we add another guy who can be a top 2 guy.
