    TRADE DEADLINE

If the boards mysteriously go down or start acting wacky, more than likely a trade is about to happen

As they should. That means nothing other than, "if you want to discuss Crowder, the starting point is a 1st rounder"

Grizz Acquire Iguodala, 1st Round Pick from GS

I don't. I was listening to NBA(or Basketball maybe) Insiders on ESPN radio last night while driving around. They said that Morey and D'Antoni seem to be committed to small ball and feel that they play better without Capela on the floor. At least according to them, this is very real and the Rockets are trying to move Capela to the East by any means before the deadline. That's where Iggy enters the picture. If they desperately want him, they have to move a larger contract....BAM, Capela's works. I could see a 3 way happening. Capela got a DNP-CD in the last game. We could even throw in a J. Jackson just to get a better return. Which J. Jackson? Well, you won't know that until after we finalize the trade.

Of course most of the trades won't happen. IDK, I guess I see stuff like this as more fun in the off-season where the possibilities are wide open. As the trade deadline nears, I think the reality sets in that more than likely nothing will happen for most teams and that trades are very situational. I'm just not convinced that the Crowder trade is enticing enough to the Bucks to give up a 1st round pick to rent somebody for 30-something games. They seem to be doing well without a player like that. I don't see anybody who would make a difference against those players named anyway. There really aren't anymore defensive stopper type guys out there anymore. They will get their numbers regardless if it's Jae Crowder or anybody else. The way the league is going, it's all offense and score as much as possible. I'm just not convinced he moves the needle for them and I definitely don't see him moving the needle enough for a 1st round pick but that's just me. Wes Matthews is trash and has been since he was here in Dallas. Of course they are frustrated with him. Now we're flipping Matthews to Philly? LOL, seems to be a ton of assumptions going on to make this work. I guess I come from this point of view: I don't really see the benefit. We get another draft pick(woo hoo i guess). The next draft is going to be horrible, partially because college bball is horrible. I don't see how this move moves the needle for us one way or another. it just reeks of making a move to make a move and then patting ourselves on the back for getting a draft pick that probably won't ever materialize into anything I'm over draft picks. Sure you can use them in deals but whatever. At this point, I would prefer we target guys in their mid-20s with 4-5 years of experience and get them via FA or trade. This team is at least 1 year if not 2 years ahead of schedule right now. Who knows, it could all come crashing down after the ASG but I would rather target players who are already used to the NBA life and NBA game. I don't want to wait on some rookie to develop or wait 5 years to get some draft pick that's heavily protected. Ja and Jaren are ahead of schedule, get players who have the same game maturity. Guys like D Brooks (24 y/o), Kyle Anderson (26 y/o), and Tyus Jones (23 y/o). I think Ja and Jaren's understanding of how to play the game is more in line with guys like that than some rookie. They are ahead of schedule and i think the vets of Crowder, Hill and JV have helped with that Team chemistry seems to be great. Why disrupt that in the middle of the season? It took several games before Ja and Jaren where able to play off of each other. It took several games for Jaren to learn how to play with JV. Why start making changes to a team that's overachieving, potentially setting them back as well as setting back their confidence just so we can make a trade? What is the reason for wanting to trade Crowder? Is it because when we acquired him, the narrative was we acquired him to flip him to a contender? I just don't understand why people want to trade him so badly, when Iggy would probably give you similar if not better return since his contract is much higher. Iggy is not a contributor to this team. Jae is. Why not focus everything on getting rid of Iggy first?

LOL, if you take something that way. That's on you not me. I talk a certain way and I post like I talk, always have since 2003 when I started posting on this board. There has not been 1 time where I have EVER said "I know more basketball than you". That's quite juvenile. This is a discussion board to discuss ideas. I like discussing ideas and challenging people's ideas as I expect them to challenge my ideas. It gets people to think. That's what I am doing. That's what i do. We are going way off topic because you seem to have taken offense to something I posted that was not meant to be offensive and now you want to argue or as you said "Don't dish it if you can't take it" as if you're ready for some fight. We're clearly on different pages cause it ain't that serious to me and I wasn't dishing anything. This is a discussion board for Grizz fans to discuss teh team, not to go back and forth with personal attacks when we don't even know each other.

This is a discussion board to discuss ideas and topics. No need to take anything personally or start telling me how I act. You don't know me. These are discussions simple and plain. how about you not tell me how i act like what I knwo and i won't tell you what type of person you are? Deal?

And they had a specific need for a backup PG since Dellavadova's production fell off the cliff. Where would Jae fit in?

So Jae Crowder is going to shut down Lebron, Kawhi, Ben SImmons, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum? Really? You REALLY believe that? I'm pretty sure if any of those players saw that, they would fall out laughing. Is Jae Crowder really THAT much better than Wes Matthews on defense? Matthews starts at the 2, Middleton starts at the 3 and Giannis starts at the 4. If they traded Matthews for Jae, where would Jae fit in to shut down all of the league's premier players at the swing spot?

Milwaukee has the best record in the league and they project to win 70 games with their current winning %: Why would a team with the best record in the league just up and make a trade that doesn't necessarily make them better? Can you cite historical precedence where the best team in the league goes out and just makes a trade to make a trade? Maybe you can, idk. I can't think of any off the top of my head but hey, I'm over 40 now so I may be forgetting Why would Milwaukee or any team for that matter, give up a 1st round pick for Jae Crowder whose contract expires at the end of the season? I'm pretty sure that Chris Wallace is not in the Bucks' front office where he would be handing out 1st round picks like newborn puppies. I get it, they have the best record in the league so it's essentially a second round pick, but so what. How does that help us and why would Milwaukee just give p a 1st round pick for someone who would be there for 30 something odd games? If Wilson is such a nice prospect, why would Milwaukee let him go? Wouldn't they want to retain him and develop him so that he could be in the rotation in the future? I don't see any reasonable, viable trades for Jae Crowder. In no way am I saying he's untouchable, I'm just saying, i don't see any reasonable, viable trades for him that would increase our value as a result so we might as well stay put until the end of the season. Not only is he providing leadership, he's also an expiring contract and that gives him even more value to us. The only person we should be trying to trade is iggy. He should give us everything you want in a Jae Crowder and it doesn't disrupt team chemistry (well, unless we get a knucklehead back) I don't care about collecting draft picks for this team. This team needs young vets 25 and under going forward. We shouldn't be trying to develop anyone. We are ahead of schedule so let's keep it rolling and not take steps back.

It depends. When is it? is it this year's draft, next year's 5 years out? What's the anticipated position? Is it lottery protected? Quite honestly, at this point, the players that I want to see added are players who are experienced yet still young-similar to Kyle, Tyus, DB. those types of players. Trying to bet on getting some guy who may fit your rotation or may work out in the future really doesn't do much for me. With that being said, I don't see a team giving up a 1st for Jae Crowder. Obviously, it could happen, but I don't see it. Not to mention, he only makes $7.8 mil. i just don't see that happening and if it does, it's for a team that is desperate in win now mode and will be n the playoffs which means teh pick will be lower. Not sure it's worth it. Of course, I agree with that. My thing is, I don't think the right deal exists. it may but I don't see it right now. We are exceeding expectations. The locker room is apparently great and unified. They are following Jenkins' lead and doing what he asks. There doesn't seem to be any toxicity there and Ja and Jaren really respect Jae. Why change that for the unknown just to make a trade for trade's sake?Just ride teh season out and see where you stand at the end of the season. Make moves in the off-season. Iggy is really the only piece we should be trying hard to trade imo.

    Rim protection

I would pursue an Iggy for Gorgui Dieng trade. Minny has fallen apart and will probably rebuild. For Minny, they could take on Iggy's expiring contract and buy him out. Dieng has one more year left on his contract so it frees them this off-season. We get a backup big. Both teams benefit and dIENG may be slightly overpaid but we're paying Iggy to do absolutely nothing now but workout in California.

I think people are underestimating the impact of Crowder. It's not so much on the court as it is off of the court. I posted an article a while back, near the beginning of the season where Crowder basically told Taylor Jenkins not to hold back and that he should lay into the players for how they were playing because they were not playing well. I think he is showing excellent leadership in that locker room and you can add Hil and JV to that as well. A lot of times when teams rebuild, they go straight young and that's a problem because you don't have people who know how to win in the NBA teaching the youngsters how to win. It doesn't matter how talented you are, if you are inexperienced, you're just inexperienced. When you look at Jae Crowder's career, after his rookie year in Dallas, he has been on playoff teams his entire career. Trading him for a second round pick and some bum who will probably be a malcontent makes no sense. From the day Crowder was traded here, he has had nothing but a positive attitude, was positive about coming to Memphis, positive about taking on the leadership role and helping the team learn how to win and people want to get rid of him more than likely for some bum at the end of the bench with a bloated contracted and a second round pick, why? Experience counts. Same thing with Jonas. Before coming to Memphis, he had been on playoff teams every year of his career with the exception of his rookie year. Solomon Hill has been on multiple playoff teams. I don't think it's a coincidence that we have 3 players, under 30 with multiple years of NBA experience and playoff experience. This is a transition year. I don't see any reason to get rid of Crowder or Hill just to make a trade. If you're not adding value, there's no reason to do it and frequently, second round picks really don't have much value once they materialize into a person. The only person on this team who definitely needs to be traded is Iggy. After that, maybe Josh Jackson and/or Grayson Allen but as of right now, we are well ahead of schedule and I see no reason to change anything. Crowder, Jackson and Hill are expiring contracts. no need to take back long term salary just to pick up a 2nd round pick in the hopes that you can flip it in the future. Ride this season on out and do stuff in teh off-season. This season is going much better than anyone anticipated, no need to rock the boat, that's what bad teams do.

Any updates on possible suspensions from the Knicks game?

So the rule was in place 10 years before the Malice in the Palace, yet the Malice in the Palace still happened? Good rule. It seems to work. My point is real simple. The NBA should use judgment and not just have some "1 size fits all", "zero tolerance", "treat every situation the same" type rule. Jaren and Marko were not inciting or instigating anything. They were not running over to join the join the fracas or excite the situation. The NBA itself overlooks many rules on a game to game basis especially concerning traveling and carrying the ball. Referees have "make up calls". Just cause it's a rule doesn't mean you have to follow it to the letter of the law. Chris Herrington gave several examples including going 1 mph over the speed limit. Cops won't pull you over for that but technically you're over the speed limit. You have to think, use good judgment and realize that every situation is different. This isn't murder we're talking about. I'm not big on "well, the rule is the rule" type thinking. There have been many unjust, oppressive and out and out right stupid rules and laws throughout the history of the U.S. as well as the world and many were changed after using good judgment and actually thinking.

For those who think the NBA won't push Zion into ROY to hype him up, well after all of 4 games, the braintrust at the NBA rewarded him

    All-Star Reserves Announced...And Guess What!!!!!!

I agree that it is a joke and a glorified popularity contest but for the casual fan, it's a measuring stick of how good a player may be (no matter how misguided that thinking is). Most people on this board are pretty savvy when it comes to bball and realize that the ASG is nothing special and is a popularity contest, but the NBA doesn't care about people like us. They are marketing to the casual fan who may watch a few games of year of top teams but will buy merchandise. Those people think the ASG matter and is a measure of how good a player is. in a roundabout way, it kind of legitimizes your franchise by having all stars cause that's what the casual fan knows.

Any updates on possible suspensions from the Knicks game?

Of course I didn't like it, I thought i made that clear. I also made it clear why I didn't like it. One size fits all zero tolerance rules don't involve thinking. If the NBA put on their thinking caps, they would evaluate intent. There was no ill intent or malice on the part of Marko and Jaren, as a matter of fact, Peter Edmiston said they were already off of the bench before the fracas even begun: This suspend anyone off of the bench was put in place because of the Malice in the Palace but it needs to be re-evaluated and adjusted. They need to introduce judgment and thinking in it. They are just reviewing to see who may be on the floor, pow, automatic suspension. That is stupid and it needs to change. Not to mention they are getting the same punishment as someone who maliciously pushed someone in mid air with ill intent and the intent to do harm.

Any updates on possible suspensions from the Knicks game?

This is ridiculous. Payton should have gotten at least 3 games and Morris at least 1. Suspending Marko and Jaren for leaving the bench when they did nothing is ludicrous. There has to be some judgment in there and not just zero tolerance, "you left the vicinity of the bench, automatic 1 game suspension". I get it, they should know but it's not like they did anything. Payton pushed someone and could have seriously injured him, Morris came out of nowhere pushing Ja, I think Payton swung punches...Marko and Jaren left the bench BOOM automatic 1 game suspension.
