NCAA Corruption Scandal

Recommended Posts

It's a very unfortunate situation but we all know that most of these coaches and a very high percentage of winning college coaches cheat on a regular basis. NCAA men's basketball and football are basically semi-pro feeder leagues to the NBA and NFL and no one wants to upset that balance. As long as that is the case and the NBA has rules in place preventing people from entering until a certain age, there will be rampant cheating. If the NBA lifted that rule and/or allowed 16 y/o to go to the g League, it would eliminate some of the cheating but not all. Everyone wants to win and people will always find gray areas and "bend" rules.

Pitino lost his job as a result of this but i could see others losing their job. I think it's silly to say that men's basketball and football are amateur leagues, just look at how much revenue they are bringing in. It's a profit making business and they get away without paying these kids.  Tuition scholarships aren't enough. yeah it pays for tuition but you got room and board (which athletic scholarships may pay for), food, entertainment. They can't work like most other students can to get extra spending money.

The NCAA will have to change at some point.

The entire nature of college athletics needs to change. Make the professional leagues establish minor league systems similar to the European models and make colleges get back to educating our youth not developing future athletes.

i've been saying that for years. As long as this large amount of money is involved, there is no way there will be amateur athletics for the NCAA. They need to split up both basketball and football into regional minor league teams but that will never happen.
