The Group Schedules for the FIBA World Championships are out, and there are many current and former Grizzly players that will be competing. The main website is at http://turkey2010.fiba.com/eng .

The United States team looks to have both Rudy Gay and O. J. Mayo as possible players and is in Group B. Their first game will be on August 28 versus Croatia.

US Team Website - http://turkey2010.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/10...9/overview.html

Also in Group B is the Iranian Team featuring our own Hamed Hadaddi. They begin play on August 28 against Brazil. The other two teams in Group B are Slovenia and Tunisia.

In Group D, Spain begins play on August 28 against France. Marc Gasol will be the force in the middle for Espana, as his brother is sitting out the World Championships this year. Former Grizzly Juan Carlos Navarro is also on the Spanish Team. The other teams in Group D are New Zealand, Lithuania, Canada & Lebanon.

Spanish Team Site - http://turkey2010.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/10...2/overview.html

In Group A, former Grizzlies Darko Milicic and Serbia begin play on August 28 against Angola. The other Group A teams are Argentina, Australia, Germany & Jordan.

Serbian National Team - http://turkey2010.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/10...9/overview.html

Group C consists of China, Greece, Russia, Ivory Coast, Puerto Rico & Turkey.

I'll leave it up to the moderators if they want to sticky this post until after the championships so we can comment on the play of the various Grizzly players.

Is there a site that has a listing of all current or former NBA players who are on rosters? I looked on NBA.com and didn't see anything on it.

Not on the FIBA site itself. They are not picky about what professional league a player comes from. They do have a player search page, providing links to the player profiles of every player listed as likely to participate. You can look down the list and make a list yourself.

http://turkey2010.fiba.com/pages/eng/fe/10...yer-search.html

Looking quickly at the list, I spot a lot of NBA talent, some on teams you would not expect like Chris Kaman on the German team (his grandfather was German IIRC).

Paul, Deron May Be Only Team USA Members From 2008 In Turkey

Jul 05, 2010 9:47 PM EST

From their 2008 gold medal team, only Chris Paul and Deron Williams may play for Team USA in the World Championships this summer.

LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Carlos Boozer, Tayshaun Prince, Michael Redd and Jason Kidd are all out of the picture for USA Basketball this summer.

"It's a combination of three things, free agency, injuries and having gone hard for a long time,'' Jerrr Colangelo said of 2008 Olympians not playing. "And I'm OK with that.''

Kevin Durant is a lock for the team, but the remainder of the roster is currently in flux.

This should be good news for Rudy. I really want him to make this team so he can make some type of transition (similar to Melo). Not sure about OJ. Hopefully he can make at SG and they would use him for his shooting ability. The PG slots should be filled with Paul, Williams and Rose leaving him with no room to make it as a PG.

I'm eager to see what can Kevin Durant do without shooting 300 free throws per game.

Most of the players from the 2008 Olympic Redeem team aren't playing this Summer.

Supposedly only Chris Paul and Deron Williams from 2008 will be playing depending on their injury situation.

However we'll still have plenty of talent to most likely win it all.

Based upon the Spears article, here's the breakdown of the players participating in the USA Basketball Summer Camp to determine the FIBA team.

Guards
Rajon Rondo
Chauncey Billups
Stephan Curry
Tyreke Evens
Eric Gordon
O. J. Mayo
Derrick Rose
Russell Westbrook

Forwards
Rudy Gay
Lamar Odom
LaMarcus Aldridge
Kevin Durant
Danny Granger
Jeff Green
Andre Iguodala
Kevin Love
Gerald Wallace

Centers
Amare Stoudamire
Al Jefferson
David Lee
Brook Lopez

With the squad size limited to twelve players, selection will be interesting. For the Olympics, they went with only one true center, Dwight Howard, and used Bosh and Boozer when he needed rest or had foul trouble. That team was very guard heavy (Kobe, Wade, Kidd, Williams, Paul, Redd) with the forwards being interchangeable (LeBron, Carmelo, Prince). But it is pretty obvious this roster is not as versatile.

I have some thoughts of my own as to the selections, but before I air them, I would like to hear which players other posters believe will make the cut as the US national team.

If we want to have a chance of winning those should be the 12 we pick.

True, it's not a lock. Too many young players. Not enough pure shooters or overwhelming defenders.

Additional news adds two more players, both centers: Tyson Chandler and Robin Lopez. Removed from the list are Al Jefferson and LaMarcus Aldridge.

In the last Olympic cycle Colangelo said players had to committ to the team for all 3 years if they wanted to go to the Olympics. Are they sticking with that policy? Because if so I don't think this team is a lock for gold in 2012 either.

Colangelo tried to take a hard line, that anyone who did not take part in the World Championships, barring an injury, would not be eligible for the London Olympics, but backed down when he collectively got the finger from all the big names who were free agents. Once he made exceptions for them, the rest of the team decided to bow out this summer. But USA Basketball has left it open for people skipping the trip to Turkey to play in London.
