We need to play Selby at the 2 some.
You just can't make him a facilitator, he's too good at scoring for that.
It's certainly a defensive risk, but it's worth a try for limited minutes. If we can make a good combo out of him, it will help us with scoring off the bench. And depending on how Henry comes back, give us some margin for trades to complete the rotation.
And about the whole Rudy Gay dilema, I believe it's quite clear: we need to use Gay as a finnisher, not a creator. We clinched last season when they realized that. Gay is not good creating offense for the team, but he is a primary threat on catch and shoots, cuts to the basket and isos. Then use him like that. Create the offense through Conley and Marc, and Randolph to some extent, make teams collapse and give Rudy some free, steady jumpers.
The problem is that Gay wants to be that playmaker, that creator, and somehow Hollins seems to aprove. I don't know if that's the game plan (it certainly wasn't last January) or it's just giving him some margin to find his rythmn, but it's not the best idea. Make him do cuts, make him spend his energy on the defensive end, and create some offense FOR him, instead of believing that he will create it by himself. And God knows we can use a jumpshooter when defense collapse. The three guys in our frontcourt can step out and him jumpers, Gay's got the longest range.
