Bye bye Zach, Tony, and C Lee. Enter more spacing and one of the best treasures hidden in plain site to go along with two of the best complimentary players in the league in Gasol and Conley. This trade gives an inspired effort to a saturated roster due to the over utilization of the core four. Great first step move in bringing in Chalmers. Carmelo needs Memphis but not more than Memphis needs him.

Melo isn't going to leave NY when he's getting paid. PAID!

Melo can still get paid here and don't you know that that would send shock waves through the league. More revenue for the Grizz and Melo and the team would be feared again!

There is no way the Knicks would make this trade.  It makes absolutely no sense for them.  Trade one of the best one on one scorers in the league for what?  Two rapidly declining specialists and a solid, but unspectacular SG?

It makes all the sense for them when their superstar is averaging the most minutes on the team and they're still subpar on the outside looking in. For as long as Z-Bo and Tony last they could provide a spark along with a relatively young C-Lee. They lack on defense and Carmelo being as good as he is a scorer still hardly translates on the defensive end for this team. Phil makes this move as he thinks long-term and Porzingis gets a mentor in Zach.

No, this doesn't make any sense to them.

They lack a bigman beside Porzingis Porzingod, and Z-Bo is not that guy.

On the contrary I believe he is the guy that brings structure to a line-up on the verge of breaking out in the east. Tony is the spirited potentially transient but effective fix with a chip on his shoulder. Together they provide a voice and presence in the locker room that is needed in order to rally for true competitiveness for that team.

I couldn't really care about how this helps the Knicks. The problem is it doesn't help the Grizzlies. Carmello is a shadow of the player he once was. The Grizzlies don't have the players to run up and down the court with teams and losing Z-Bo would mean if something happened to Gasol we wouldn't be close to competitive.

All arguable points but I believe the front office would need to make a blockbuster move like this. It has Chalmers potential change written all over it. Carmelo doesn't seem enthused at all to be playing in New York so I think that has a lot to do with is slight skid in numbers and he likes and excels with open shots something he would get a lot of here. Grizz wouldn't have change their style because either teams close in on Carmelo and open a way to the lane or he makes them pay by draining 10-15 footers all game. All this is coming from one who doesn't favor Melo much. Make the trade and pick up a big later.
