Welcome, one and all, to the fourth pick thread of the 2015-16 NBA season, Pick 10: Smokin’ Joe!

The Grizzlies have spent the last month playing 0.500 ball, struggling to stay in the middle of the playoff race in the Western Conference.  But then, other than the Spurs, Thunder and Warriors, no one in the West is truly laying claim to being a team to beat.  What has seemed to be a disappointing season so far would still have the Grizzlies in contention for first round home court advantage come playoff time.

It seems that the biggest complaint on the boards has been that the team has lost its heart, its warrior spirit.  Recapturing that style would go a long way toward energizing the team and the fan base, as well as improving the Grizzlies’ chances of a playoff run.

So, I offer for inspiration a video of a man that was a warrior, who had the heart of a champion.  Smokin’ Joe Frazier would have been seventy-two on January 12th, the date of the Pick ‘Em game against Houston for this set.  The man fought wars in the ring, and backed down from no one, be it Ali or Foreman.

Some have declared Grit ‘n’ Grind to be dead, but if the Grizzlies can recapture the fight epitomized by Smokin’ Joe, I would declare it not dead, but instead evolved to a new form.  Let’s go to the picks.

12-26 @ Hornets - W.  Charlotte took apart the Grizzlies at the Grindhouse, but have fallen off since.  Time for payback.

12-27 v. Lakers - W.  Kobe’s next to last time in visit.  Over the last few games, you’ve gotten to see the occasional flash of the Ol’ Bean.  Time to spike that and roll over a Laker squad that is nowhere near Showtime.

12-29 v. Heat - W.  Fourth quarter implosion in South Beach.  Don’t need any more bulletin board material than that.  Another memory to erase.

01-02 @ Jazz - L.  Utah has problems, and Rudy Gorbert is injured.  But something about Salt Lake City has always given the Grizz problems.  Murphy Law game – something will go wrong, and the Grizz lose.

01-04 @ Blazers - W.  Leisurely trip to the Rose City. As long as C. J. McCollum doesn’t break Mike’s face, I’m pickin’ blue.

01-06 @ Thunder - L. OKC has been rollin’.  I want the win, but I’m not calling them out in their arena.

01-08 v. Nuggets - W.  Denver has been better this season, and Will Barton is doing well as their sixth man.  But the Grizz are ready for some home cookin’.  Six games in a row at the Grindhouse, time to move up the standings.

01-10 v. Celtics - W.  Brad Stevens and the Young Green come to Beale Street.  Silky O’Sullivan’s may be having a special on barbecue leprechaun after the game.

01-12 v. Rockets - W.  The Beard and Dwight come back to Memphis.  Water bill still in arrears.  Houston held to 100 in the loss.

01-14 v. Pistons - W.  Detroit has been impressive this season without Greg Monroe, but that only goes so far.  We won in Auburn Hills, repeat comin’ on Beale.

8 – 2, 100 points for the Pick ‘Em.  Knockout time!

If someone is not nice at this time for sure he has a problem in his personal life, family, job, financial or love-life. This is the time loneliness is felt the most and people act mean when they don't have what they think they should have.

Happy New Year :)

Sorry to say, we had our first eliminations last night.  Not as much fun as last year where it was usually six games before the first elimination.

And with tonight's loss, the only person left with a chance is nivek. Need a win Thursday or nobody wins. Next thread will be up on Thursday.
