What about some fishing with the Cavs without giving out Marc Gasol or Mike Conley ?

Kevin Love + Jr Smith

for

Zach Randolph + Jeff Green + Courtney Lee (or tony allen)

Why for the Cavs : They ship out Kevin Love before his value is too low and get out of a potential drama situation. They get a SF/PF in Jeff Green to switch with Lebron, a useful SG in Courtney Lee that doesn't demand the ball and a perfect 6th man in Zach Randolph.

Why for the Grizzlies : Kevin Love and Jr Smith will start providing instant offense and much needed exterior shooting. Both of them would improve our rebounding numbers and the flaws that Kevin Love has (defense) can be hopefully minimized by playing with a good defensive Center. Both of them are in their peaks and open again the window of oportunity for a playoff push.

Conley - Chalmers

Jr Smith - Adams - Allen

Barnes - Allen - Carter

K Love - JmyGreen

Gasol - Holilns / Wright

Was it just seraphin and Gordon mentioned

Memphis Grizzlies

Record: 24-19
5th place in West

Status: Buyers/Sellers

The Grizzlies find themselves at a crossroads as a franchise approaching the trade deadline. The clock is ticking on the Grit-and-Grind era, with Memphis slipping near .500 and struggling to beat above-.500 teams. To have a realistic chance of winning a playoff series, the Grizzlies probably have to finish in the West's top five.

If they deem that unlikely, it's possible Memphis could be more seller than buyer with five impending free agents in the rotation.

Potential trade targets

Eric Gordon
The Grizzlies are always on the hunt for more shooting, and Gordon fits the bill as a career 38.2 percent shooter. If the New Orleans Pelicans decide to move on from Gordon in the final season of his contract, expect them to place a call to Memphis.

Kevin Seraphin
Even before backup big man Brandan Wright underwent knee surgery, Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger was looking for more size in the frontcourt. A true center like Seraphin, who has fallen out of his current team's rotation (Seraphin has played just 14 minutes in all of January), could be a cheap target.

Even at his age, Marc Gasol is the most valuable piece on Memphis' roster. Nelson Chenault/USA TODAY Sports
Most trade value

1. Marc Gasol
Still in the first year of a five-year, $113 million contract he signed last summer, Gasol remains one of the league's top centers.

2. Mike Conley
Conley's value is limited by his forthcoming free agency, but the team he finishes the season with will have full Bird rights to re-sign him as an unrestricted free agent this summer.

3. Courtney Lee
Lee has an attractive expiring contract that pays him just $5.7 million this season. He's the premier 3-and-D specialist on the market and a valuable rental, if not something more.

4. Jeff Green
Yet another impending free agent, Green fetched a first-round pick when Memphis acquired him barely a year ago. But we've now got another year of evidence that Green is likely to remain the inconsistent, frustrating role player he's been throughout his career, and at 29 it's harder to believe he's on the verge of becoming something more.

5. Matt Barnes
Stop me if you've heard this before, but Barnes is in the final season of a reasonable contract paying him $3.5 million. Memphis bought low to get Barnes while giving up nothing of value in return and could parlay him into a second-round pick or two.

Most valuable draft pick

2020 first-rounder
Because of picks traded to the Celtics for Green and the Denver Nuggets (via the Cleveland Cavaliers), Memphis can't deal a first-round pick until 2020 at the earliest. Replenishing their depleted stocks of first-rounders is a key reason the Grizzlies might be tempted into selling at the deadline.

Toughest contract to trade

Vince Carter
The good news for Memphis is the team doesn't have a single truly bad contract on the books. The aging Carter isn't worth the $4.1 million he's making this season, but has only $2 million of his 2016-17 salary guaranteed.

Biggest question marks

Jordan Adams and Brandan Wright
Neither Adams nor Wright has played since early November, and after trying to rehab knee injuries, both underwent arthroscopic knee surgery. Wright could be back by the end of January, but Adams won't likely return until after the All-Star break. Their absences make it more difficult for the Grizzlies to sell off players who are currently needed in the rotation, and Adams' lost season has kept Memphis from determining whether he can be a long-term contributor on the wing.

Wasn't you saying JG should be starting less than a month ago?

Yes i did but not with Zbo which is what he insisted on doing.  He started Jeff with Courtney and with Zbo when the numbers showed those were the least affective lineups with Jeff.   The stats showed the most effective lineup with Jeff starting was Mike + tony + Barnes + Jeff + Gasol.

Hey i was a Jeff Green apologists and can admit that.  I am just not insane and stubborn enough to continue supporting an idea when it clearly isn't working.

Marc Gasol/Courtney Lee for Kevin Love/Timofey Mozgov

Would you? Would we? Would they?

I don't like Kevin Love and don't think he is the type that can lead a team to a championship.

But if we were to obtain Love i would want to keep Gasol because Love replicates the same problems Zbo does defensively.

Henson has a poison pill contract because he signed his extension I'm not sure how you trade for those but I don't think the money works straight up

He and Mike are from Indiana and the same AAU team.  That is a very real possibility.

If Brandan Wright is coming back soon we probably aren't going to acquire another PF type in a trade.   I think only type of Big we will get is the type that will allow Brandan to play more at PF.

I'd have to agree with this sentiment but I am hearing rumors that Wright could be out until just before the playoffs. If he takes that long to return, or the team expects him out that long, I wouldn't be surprised to see the team make an inexpensive move to acquire more depth on the front line.

Not JJ Hickson per se but someone who can spell Gasol who's better than Hollins.

If B. Wright doesn't comes back till after the regular season, he will be of little use. Bad knees, to skinny, another Wallace mistake.

IMO, this guy was a signing mistake .

Wouldn't anyone in the Grizzlies' situation?  The trouble is Milwaukee would laugh in our faces with that proposal.

I would be willing to swap Gasol for Love. I think it is a move that could work for both teams. Gasol would give Cleveland a defensive anchor. Love would give the Grizzlies a legitimate number 1 scoring option. That is something the Grizzlies sorely lack. Love averaged 26 ppg his last season with Minnesota.

Love does not answer any of our defensive issues and the trade of Gasol would make them even bigger. So I would try to swing a side deal to get a defensive center. Maybe see if Jeff Green's expiring contract can get Kosta back. I do realize the only chance of that happening is if Sacramento wanted to just be rid of the contract. Maybe get a future Cleveland pick to send to Sacramento to sweeten the pot.

Signing Wright wasn't a mistake, expecting him to replace Koufos was. He can't be a fulltime backup for Marc.

Here's hoping draft night trade goin down w/ either him or Jam to clear up minutes for Martin. Maybe move up to get a legit C to develop alongside Martin like Damian James or Diamond Stone.

How was that sarcasm? I fully expect a Joe Johnson or Eric Gordon signing. And if Wallace bragged on Matt Barnes I know he will blow up Gordon or JJ.

Rudy Gay at 12 mil for 3 yrs for Jeff and VC @ 13 mil. Would you do it?

And no I'm not stuck on Rudy but he's a much better all around player than he was when he was here. 18pts per game 7 rebs and per is 16.6.

Jeff's numbers are 10.9 pts 4.5 rebs and his per is 11.8.

Don't let your bias make the decision for you. The fact of the matter is Marc is no longer an elite defender. In fact, according to ESPN's real plus minus, Marc is the 21st best defensive center. His defensive rating is a 2.56 which is not significantly better than Love's 2.0. The biggest difference between the two is that Marc has a negative offensive rating (-0.22) whereas Love has the 3rd best PF offensive rating (3.25).

Everyone knows Love is a defensive liability. You don't trade for Love for his defense. You trade for him because he is one of the best scorers in the league and would give you a true number one option, something the Grizzlies sorely lack. Marc and Mike would both prefer to be the third option. Both are reluctant scorers. I'd absolutely trade Gasol for Love. Gasol is not the defensive anchor he used to be. If we made the trade though, we would need to bring a defensive center in to pair with Love though.

Those numbers are true but you have to remember Marc has been playing all season without a true backup while also being expected to shoulder biggest burden offensively.  If we want him to become the defensive anchor again then we need to get him a real backup and change him from being primary option on offense.

I personally don't want another primary option that doesn't have the ball in his hands(perimeter player).  If we get Love we still need a scoring wing to compliment him.   Trading Gasol for Love moves us one step forward but takes us two steps back.   We would need to move Zbo too because there is no way they could co-exist.

Basically we would be building around Mike Conley + Kevin Love.   Is that an easier task than building around Mike+Gasol?   Does that raise our ceiling?

All hypothetical s of course but if i traded Gasol for Love then i would try to throw in Vince for Mozgov at least.   Jeff Green and Zbo would have to be the first guys to go.
