For the start of the 2017-18 season, what do you think will be the location for each of the following players-on Grizzlies roster, on another team's roster, or UFA? I've also included Wayne Selden as his contract is not guaranteed for next season (as far as I know). Please put clear predictions on top and commentary at the end. Note: the predictions aren't about what you would do, but what you think the team does. Vince - Grizzlies Zach - Grizzlies Tony - Another team JaM Green (RFA) - Grizzlies Selden - Grizzlies Obviously for any of these FA, I can see them somewhere else. VC - I don't think it is a coincidence that Fizz has praised Vince repeatedly this offseason for helping develop the young players. Zach - If Marc wants him around, he stays. If not he'll get a contract elsewhere. I don't think the money will be there for a top stretch 4. Tony - The reason he could stay is because of a relatively weak SG FA class, and he does bring something different to the table as a defender. But he's been hurt, and he will have value to a young team trying to reach the playoffs. I could see him having the highest demand of the UFA. JaM - I think the Grizzlies match whatever, barring it isn't too crazy.
GrizzTigerFan posted a topic in Grizzlies Team TalkSeeing as how the Rodney Stuckey discussion is hijacking the Draft thread. I thought i would shift the discussion over here. It has been posted in other sites that Grizzlies have the lowest production from the wing spots in the entire league (specifically SF). I am sure no one really needs a link to know that stat is true. Eyeball test confirmed it all year. Mike Conley mentioned at the end of the season that he needs another playmaker on the wing to share that responsibility with. Having to be primary playmaker and a scorer is too much of a burden. Also was mentioned that we need someone that can drive and generate contact for FTA to put pressure on defenses. That seemed like a pretty big indictment on our wing rotation. Here are the wing player under contract for next season. Tony Allen Quincy Pondexter Tayshaun Prince Jamaal Franklin Courtney Lee (UFA) James Johnson Mike Miller Looking at that crop of guys the only ones that can actually pass and handle the ball are the UFA's. The only other player that may have some of those abilities is an unproven rookie in Franklin. Also none of those guys are aggressive scorers (except maybe JJ) and are mostly poor ball-handlers and passsers. We basically have a ton of guys that are more defensive specialist. Only Lee and Miller were multidimensional shooters. Lee is the most complete player out of all of our wings but isn't a scorer or playmaker. Tayshaun is just a "glue guy" and doesn't do enough of anything to really help Conley or scoring in general. Needless to say the type of player Conley described is not on this roster. So how can we acquire this type of guy via trade, via draft or via free Agency. Free Agency Lance Stephenson Rodney Stuckey Evan Turner E'Twaun Moore Ramon Sessions Jordan Crawford I listed guys with the ability to handle and pass the ball at above average level and get to the rim. Not a very long list and full of questionable guys. Stephenson is gonna be too expensive and is a bit of a headcase. Turner is hated by FO and fans alike. Sessions is a horrible defender and outside shooter. Crawford is reckless. E'Twaun is undersized too. Stuckey is a vet, great size, ball-handling, and can get to the rim with PG skills. Draft No way Dave plays a rookie significant enough minutes on this veteran squad to be able to contribute next year (see Franklin, Jamaal). Trade Dion Waiters Tyreke Evans Alec Burke Iman Shumpert Eric Gordon Not alot of options that are really available and don't know if we have desirable assets to obtain. If i am missing anyone please let me know. Tyreke has elite ability to get to rack and PG skills as a ball-handler and passer and great size. However, he is expensive and injury prone. Dion Waiters has good scoring ability and combo guard ability to handle ball and pass but is undersized. Shumpert is mostly just overrated. Eric Gordon is undersized and overpriced. Alec Burke probably isn't available. Out of all the options that have been made available Stuckey and Tyreke are the best. Neither one of them are deep threats. Except Stuckey is a better FT shooter. Both can handle backup PG duty or play alongside Conley and defend SG or PG. Now the issue with Stuckey being a bad outside shooter is only really a problem if Tony or Tayshaun is still on roster. If they aren't then having a guy that isn't an outside threat BUT does have ability to score with slashing game is still a great help. he is only an issue if the plan is to play him with Tony or Tayshaun.
